Senior Cloud Platform Engineer (AWS GovCloud/IL4)
Job Description
Job DescriptionTRCTalent is working alongside a leading cloud solutions partner for a mission-critical engagement as they seek a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer. This role provides technical leadership for the delivery of enterprise-scale, cloud-native infrastructure, with a focus on AWS GovCloud and IL4-accredited environments. This role leads complex migration efforts, executes modular IaC, and serves as a senior technical authority across EKS, Terraform, and secure VDI integrations.
Position is 100% Remote (Must be a U.S. Citizen).
The Mission
Our client is supporting a U.S. Space Force mission partner migrating application infrastructure into the Nebula IL4-accredited AWS GovCloud environment. This is an execution-heavy role for an engineer who can take a finalized architectural design and build it from the ground up.
Engagement Structure
This is a high-impact contract opportunity with a clear transition from migration to long-term operations:
-
Months 1–3 (Full-Time): Focus on the build, IaC development, data migration (including Cassandra), and security documentation for the Nebula ATO assessment.
-
Month 4 (Part-Time, 20 hrs/week): Stabilization and finalized O&M runbooks.
-
Month 5+ (Part-Time, 10 hrs/week): Steady-state operations, patching, and incident response.
The Work
-
IaC Execution: Build a multi-VPC environment from scratch using 100% modular Terraform.
-
Core Infrastructure: Deploy and manage EKS (stateful workloads via Helm), WorkSpaces Pools, AppStream 2.0, FSx for Windows, and RDS.
-
Data Migration: Lead the migration of Cassandra DB and file shares from on-prem to the new GovCloud environment.
-
Security & Compliance: Provide the "body of evidence" for customer-owned controls under the Nebula ATO (NIST 800-53 / DoD RMF context).
-
Long-Term O&M: Own the environment post-migration, handling patching, monitoring, and cost tracking against AWS budgets.
What We’re Looking For
-
5–10 years of experience deploying and running production AWS environments (EC2, VPC, EKS, FSx, RDS, IAM, S3).
-
Advanced Terraform Proficiency: Ability to write modular, production-ready Infrastructure as Code from scratch—not just editing existing scripts.
-
VDI Expertise: Direct experience building and configuring WorkSpaces Pools and AppStream 2.0.
-
Kubernetes Mastery: Deep familiarity with EKS and Helm, specifically for stateful workloads.
-
Security Literacy: Enough knowledge of DoD RMF to accurately document how security controls are implemented.
-
U.S. Citizenship: Required for environment access.
Compensation & Logistics
-
1099 Rate: $90/hr
-
W-2 Rate: $80/hr
-
Start Date: Late March or April 1st.
-
Process: One 2-hour technical deep-dive with the leadership team, then a final decision.
