About the Role:

The Lifeguard plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons at aquatic facilities at the University Club of Memphis by actively monitoring swimming areas and responding promptly to emergencies. This position requires vigilance, quick decision-making, and the ability to perform lifesaving techniques such as CPR and first aid to prevent accidents and injuries. The role involves maintaining a clean and safe environment, enforcing club rules, and collaborating with team members to uphold high safety standards. Ultimately, the Lifeguard is responsible for creating a secure and welcoming atmosphere where individuals of all ages can enjoy aquatic activities with confidence.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid from a recognized organization such as the American Red Cross.
  • Proven swimming ability and comfort in aquatic environments.
  • Completion of a lifeguard training program accredited by the American Red Cross or equivalent.
  • Strong observational skills and the ability to remain alert for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patrons and team members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing swim instruction or coaching to diverse age groups.
  • Additional certifications in water safety or emergency response.
  • Previous experience working in a team-oriented aquatic facility environment.
  • Knowledge of local and state regulations related to pool safety and operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Comply with and enforce all policies, procedures, and regulations set by the University Club of Memphis
  • Monitor swimming areas continuously to identify and respond to potential hazards or emergencies.
  • Perform rescues and administer CPR, AED, and first aid as necessary to assist individuals in distress.
  • Enforce facility rules and regulations consistently to maintain a safe environment for all guests.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of pool, pool deck, and surrounding areas.
  • Complete all records and reports as required.
  • Collaborate with team members to conduct safety drills, maintain equipment, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Skills:

The required skills such as CPR/AED, First Aid, and swimming are essential for performing lifesaving interventions and ensuring immediate response to emergencies. Swim instruction skills enable the lifeguard to educate patrons on safe swimming techniques, reducing the risk of accidents. Teamwork is vital for coordinating with other staff members during routine operations and emergency situations, ensuring a cohesive safety strategy. Familiarity with American Red Cross standards ensures compliance with nationally recognized safety protocols.
