The Yard Worker supports daily operations in a busy yard environment by safely handling materials, preparing customer orders, and assisting with deliveries. This role involves working both indoors and outdoors, operating forklifts, using hand tools, and coordinating with team members to ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment.
Responsibilities
- Pull inventory orders from trucks and organize materials in the yard according to company standards.
- Use a forklift to retrieve orders from the yard and load them safely onto customer trucks.
- Assist full-time employees on deliveries to client sites by helping load, unload, and handle materials; you will ride along but not drive the delivery vehicle.
- Handle materials and products with care to prevent damage and ensure accurate order fulfillment.
- Work with hand tools and perform basic framing-related tasks as needed in the yard.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard environment by following safety procedures and housekeeping standards.
- Communicate effectively with inventory staff, runners, framers, installers, and office personnel to coordinate yard activities.
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, and hard hats.
- Adapt to changing priorities during busy seasons and support additional workload as required.
- Consistently arrive on time and work the scheduled hours, including extended hours during peak periods and every other Saturday.
Essential Skills
- At least 6 months of production experience in a yard, warehouse, construction, or manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 6 months of forklift experience, including safely operating a forklift in a yard or similar setting.
- At least 6 months of experience working in an outdoor environment and comfort working in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work with hand tools and a minimum of 6 months of framing experience.
- Experience performing general labor tasks in construction, yard work, or manufacturing settings.
- Ability to safely handle materials and follow safety procedures in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong reliability, punctuality, and willingness to work extended hours during busy seasons.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Background in construction, yard work, or general labor.
- Familiarity with manufacturing or production environments.
- Comfort working as part of a large team that includes inventory staff, office personnel, runners, framers, installers, and leadership.
- Ability to follow directions, work independently when needed, and take initiative in a busy yard environment.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with coworkers and support efficient yard operations.

Work Environment
You will work at a busy facility with approximately 100 team members, including inventory staff, office personnel, runners, framers, installers, and leadership. The role combines indoor and outdoor work, so you must be prepared to work in all weather conditions and dress appropriately for the elements at all times. In the yard, you will be part of a team of about 25 coworkers performing similar duties. Standard hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and every other Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to noon. During the busy season, starting around the end of April, you will be expected to work from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. while still working every other Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to noon. The position requires regular use of forklifts, hand tools, and other yard equipment, with a strong focus on safety. The dress code includes jeans and a t-shirt, and the company provides gloves, safety glasses, and a hard hat to support a safe working environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grimes, IA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
