Embedded Systems Engineer | Charlotte, MI

Salary Range: $84,000 - $129,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement embedded hardware and firmware for manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
  • Integrate embedded systems with sensors, actuators, PLCs, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherCAT).
  • Debug, test, and validate embedded software and hardware to ensure reliability, performance, and quality on the production floor.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for embedded systems issues in production, minimizing downtime.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, software, production) to define system requirements and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for embedded system designs, firmware, and test procedures.
  • Optimize existing embedded systems for improved efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and scalability in manufacturing processes.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems, including real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Demonstrated experience with microcontroller architectures (e.g., ARM Cortex-M) and peripheral driver development.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, CAN, EtherCAT) and sensor/actuator integration.
  • Ability to read schematics, debug hardware using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers, and perform board bring-up.
  • Experience developing firmware for manufacturing test equipment, industrial control systems, or automation.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherCAT, PROFINET).
  • Familiarity with PLC or SCADA systems and their integration with embedded solutions.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT) principles.
  • Experience with industrial automation, robotics, or machine vision applications.
  • Understanding of reliability engineering and manufacturing quality standards (e.g., FMEA).
