Job Summary:
The Produce Clerk is responsible for ensuring fresh, high-quality fruits and vegetables are well-stocked, attractively displayed, and properly maintained. This role includes unloading deliveries, rotating stock, trimming and watering produce, and helping customers with questions and product selection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stock, rotate, and merchandise fresh produce to meet store standards.
- Inspect, cull, and trim produce to maintain quality and freshness.
- Ensure displays are clean, organized, and visually appealing.
- Assist in unloading produce deliveries and organizing backroom coolers.
- Monitor product dates and remove expired or damaged items.
- Maintain knowledge of current produce varieties, pricing, and promotions.
- Water and mist produce as needed to maintain freshness.
- Provide helpful, friendly customer service and answer product-related questions.
- Follow proper food handling and safety guidelines.
- Keep work area, tools, and equipment clean and sanitized.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior produce or grocery experience is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work in cold environments (coolers, wet produce areas).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Working Conditions:
- Regularly works in refrigerated areas and with wet or slippery floors.
- Requires standing, bending, and lifting throughout shift.
- Fast-paced retail environment with customer interaction.
