About the Oglala Sioux Lakota Nursing Home, Inc.
The Oglala Sioux Lakota Nursing Home is managed by Native American Health Management (NAHM). A three-person Board was appointed to provide oversight of the operation of the facility.
Oglala Sioux Lakota Nursing Home is a State of the Art, 60-bed long-term care unit with a 12-bed memory care unit.

A Primary Objective
A primary objective of the staff is to help each resident to attain and maintain the optimum of his or her physical and mental capacity, to be as self-sufficient as possible and to continue to develop new interests that will give life content and purpose. Working with ageing in a nursing care facility is both challenging and strenuous. It is also very satisfying. We strive to prove those we serve with the best possible care through the best utilization of available quality care.

Job Description
Activities Department Description – Activities Aide
At the Oglala Sioux Lakota Nursing Home (OSLNH), our Activities Department plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our residents. Guided by our commitment to culturally sensitive care and community involvement, the department offers a comprehensive program of recreational, social, and cultural activities designed to support the well-being of each individual in our care.
The Activities Aide assists in the development and implementation of daily programming that encourages independence, socialization, and emotional wellness. These activities are tailored to meet the unique needs and preferences of each resident through Individualized Plans of Care, with a strong emphasis on promoting dignity, cultural heritage, and meaningful engagement.
Key Responsibilities:

Support and participate in planning and leading group and one-on-one activities such as:

Bingo, arts and crafts, cooking, and music

Spiritual and religious services

Movie showings in our dedicated theater

Resident Council meetings

Salon and barber shop visits
-
Special facility outings and cultural events
-

Personal contact with a varying resident population and a varied work schedule that may include some weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Tasks also include progress documentation, other record keeping, attention to the environment, use of supplies, equipment, and maintenance of storage areas.

Collaborate with the Activities Director, nursing staff, and family members to ensure activities reflect residents’ interests and Lakota cultural traditions.

Encourage residents' participation to enhance their mental, physical, and emotional health.

Work alongside families and volunteers to implement culturally appropriate programming that respects and honors Lakota values.

Monitor resident participation and report observations regarding their engagement and behavior.

The Activities Department is a hub for intergenerational connection, fostering community spirit and enabling elders to maintain strong ties with their heritage. Our aides are more than staff—they are vital contributors to preserving the Lakota way of life within a nurturing, home-like setting.
Resident Rights
- Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
- Ensure that all activity personnel are knowledgeable of the resident's rights and responsibilities.
- Knock before entering a resident's room.
Qualifications
- Minimum educational requirements include a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- 2 forms of Identification. (1 Must be photo)
- if claiming Indian preference, proof of enrollment.
