USRA and the Science and Technology Institute (STI) are seeking a full-time Software Engineer to work in our Huntsville AL office. This candidate will provide programming assistance to the Astrophysics group within the Space Science Team. The STI Astrophysics group works alongside NASA Marshall Space Flight Center to support missions that observe X-ray and gamma-ray emissions from distant sources in space. The Software Engineer position involves assisting the lead Software Engineer with developing software to transform data that has been collected.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience with Linux & Python, GitHub/GitLab development process is preferred
  • Experience with NumPy, SciPy, Astropy, and Panda’s Python packages is preferred
  • Experience with data visualization is preferred
  • Experience with web development frameworks is desired
  • Experience with machine learning is preferred
  • Collaboration experience with an interdisciplinary team/project is desired
  • Familiarity or experience with NASA and/or other Federal agencies is preferred
  • Knowledge in software documentation is desired.

Education: Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, information systems, or physics

Experience: 0-3 years of relevant work experience as a software engineer. Previous work with Astrophysical data is a plus.

Working Conditions: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. Computer keyboard use for large time spans each day will be a significant part of this position. This is largely a sedentary role.
