Job Details
- Prepare detailed cost estimates by reviewing plans, specifications, and performing quantity take-offs for select trades
- Evaluate design drawings and fully understand the scope of work for each bid
- Manage the end-to-end bidding process, from preparation through closeout
- Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure coverage of all scopes of work
- Review and analyze subcontractor proposals for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with scope
- Present cost and budget information to clients and project teams
- Apply value engineering strategies to identify opportunities for cost savings
- Assess project risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Collaborate with project and construction managers to develop schedules
- Participate in contract negotiations to secure favorable terms
- Stay current with industry practices through ongoing professional development
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in substation or electrical utilities estimating (strongly preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Management, Engineering, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Proven track record in high-voltage transmission line and substation erection projects
- Skilled in preparing accurate budgets, estimates, and competitive bids
- Proficiency in value engineering and cost analysis
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, codes, and legal requirements
- Demonstrated risk assessment and mitigation skills
- Experience in scheduling, subcontracting, and supplier management
- Strong negotiation skills with a history of securing favorable terms
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively with vendors, clients, engineers, and contractors
- Experience with estimating software and related industry technology
