PRIMARY DUTY:
Responsible to enhance the city urban environment by improving the ecological and aesthetic value of public green spaces, streetscapes, parks, and other urban areas in accordance with established protocols, regulations and ordinances. Responsible to develop long-term strategies for urban forest management. This position manages and maintains the health, safety, and sustainability of urban trees and green spaces within the city including the planning, planting, care, pest management, and removal of trees, as well as taking inventories and routinely assessing tree health and risk. Responsible to collaborate with internal departments and community groups to promote urban tree canopy expansion, volunteerism, and lead educational outreach.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor's degree in Urban Forestry or related field or equivalent.
- Demonstrated at least two years of proficiency in community in forest management including tree planting, care, pruning and maintenance techniques to ensure the long-term health of community trees.
- Experience managing tree inventories, conducting tree risk assessments, and implementing tree care programs is preferred.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License with a good driving record.
- An International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist license or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
