Driving Instructor Wanted
Compas Driving School, a Five-Star licensed driving school in Morris County New Jersey, is looking for full time and part time instructors! If you love driving as well as teaching and helping others become great drivers, this job may be right for you! We value our students’ experiences and expect our instructors to provide a clear, calm, and constructive approach when teaching, so in order to excel in this line of work you must be patient and have excellent communication skills.
Job Type: Full Time / Part Time (Multi-Lingual Preferred)
Salary: $23 - $27/hr (depending on experience as well as customer satisfaction and success)
Location: We operate in Morris, Sussex, Passaic, Essex, Bergen County Areas in New Jersey
Working Hours and Conditions: Hours for each instructor vary and the appointment times are determined based on the needs of the learners as well the instructors. Be prepared to work evenings and weekends, and expect changes in your schedule around holidays and school breaks when things tend to pick up or slow down depending on the time of year. The job requires a majority of the time to be spent in the car teaching from the passenger side, with lessons lasting between 1 to 3 hours each. The instructors will be provided vehicles from the company for the hours they are working, and are expected to pick up and drop off the vehicle in a timely and responsible manner.
Job Description: We are looking for instructors to train new teen and adult drivers in an in-car setting. Driving instructors are expected to provide safe, thorough, and patient learning experience to the students they are teaching, with a focus on defensive driving practices and theories. Every student is different, from age to background to prior driving experience, so instructors should be able to adapt to these varying circumstances; successful candidates will need to have the flexibility to adapt to these learning styles and deliver an excellent learning experience catered to each particular student.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver instructions in a calm, patient and personable fashion
- Have a professional and welcoming demeanor
- Be positive with both students and parents
- Educate and evaluate the students behind the wheel (varies from teenagers to adults)
- Identify and communicate the areas that need to be practiced and improved with both the students and their family members who are involved with the course
- Be able to instruct students properly by applying car control techniques on the road
- Thoroughly complete the necessary paperwork, from student contracts to time sheets and permits
- Provide clear and patient teaching techniques to enhance customer satisfaction
Skills and Requirements:
- Excellent skills with people, verbal communication, teaching, documentation, and decision making
- Clean and Valid New Jersey Drivers License
- High School Diploma or GED. Recent college graduates welcome
- No citations for DUI, convictions, speeding or reckless driving in the past 39 months
- Ability to pass a background check
- Ability to pass a drug screening
- Applicant should be knowledgeable of the NJ MVC driving manual
- Undergo training to pass the test through the NJ MVC for an instructor license
- Be available to undergo training on how to use the second brake as well as techniques to teach students and handle stressful situations
- Instructors are expected to use their electronic devices only when absolutely necessary during lessons so they may give their full undivided attention to the student
- There is absolutely no smoking allowed while with students or in the vehicles provided by the company
- Previous law enforcement, EMT, Military or firefighter background is a plus
Additional Information:
- Salary is based on the applicant’s experience. There are multiple positions available for full-time and part-time instructors for Monday – Saturday between the hours of 7 A.M and 7 P.M.
- Any damage to our vehicles is taken seriously and will be investigated as to the cause since it is the instructor’s responsibility to care for it during work hours. Although the drivers and car are fully covered under our company’s insurance, we take care not to overlook any potential fault on the part of the instructor since they are contractually obligated to act with particular care while with a student. If it is found that the instructor is at fault, appropriate action will be taken which may include monetary compensation for the damages incurred or even termination from the position.
Seeking a Driving Instructor:
- Available to work 7 AM - 7 PM
- Clean driving record
- More than 5 years driving experience
- Able to take and pass the NJ MVC Instructor Exams, both the written test and road test (we will provide assistance if needed)
- Available for 2-3 weeks of mandatory (Mostly paid) training
- Willing to travel about 25 Mile radius off of Boonton if necessary using a company car
- Preferably multilingual (Spanish, French, Arabic, Mandarin, Polish, Russian etc)
Willing to work weekends and possibly some holidays
