We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in advancing critical modernization initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of aviation technology, helping to shape how the FAA manages and shares information across the aviation community - enhancing both safety and efficiency nationwide.

Position Overview

As a Systems Engineer, you will collaborate with FAA program managers and engineers to design, implement, and maintain next-generation cloud and network solutions. You'll play a key role in driving systems modernization, ensuring reliability, scalability, and compliance with federal standards. This hybrid position requires 1-2 days per week on-site in our Washington, DC office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the transition of FAA business services to next-generation network environments, ensuring service continuity and performance.
  • Collaborate with customers, technical teams, and stakeholders to refine service delivery protocols in alignment with industry best practices.
  • Assist in the design, development, and configuration of new network environments in partnership with service providers to meet FAA requirements.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between the FAA program office and cloud service vendors to develop and optimize solutions that meet performance and security objectives.
  • Organize and lead Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) and formal engineering reviews among internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support solution deployment, rollout, and acceptance activities, ensuring successful implementation and integration.
  • Provide in-service management and lifecycle support for deployed systems, including enhancements and upgrades.
  • Participate in configuration control boards and manage configuration management processes for production environments.
  • Ensure adherence to FAA security policies, including compliance with FAA Order 1370.121 (FAA Information Security and Privacy Program & Policy).
  • Partner with Finance to create accurate cost estimates for system enhancements and roadmap planning.
  • Support procurement activities, including software, firmware, hardware, and service acquisitions.
  • Deliver expert technical input to federal contracting and program offices.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Experience:

  • 5+ years in a Systems Engineering, Technical Architecture, Systems Analysis, or Software Engineering role.
  • 3+ years working in cloud environments, preferably AWS (Amazon Web Services).
  • Strong understanding of API lifecycle management, governance, and standardization practices.
  • Knowledge of service metadata standards (e.g., OpenAPI) and API management platforms.
  • Familiarity with Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) concepts, including Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) architecture.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Desired Experience

  • Prior experience supporting federal acquisition programs, particularly within the FAA.
  • Working knowledge of information security protocols and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with IP network services and infrastructure.
