Position Title: Skilled Maintenance Person (Mechanic)

First Line Report: Operations Supervisor

Second Line Report: Operations Manager

Employee Status: Full-time

Exempt/ Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt

The Skilled Maintenance Person (mechanic), under the general direction of the Operations Supervisor, is responsible for performing a variety of skilled maintenance tasks within the MetroParks. It is the responsibility of the Skilled Maintenance Person to complete all assigned duties, tasks, instructions, and/or work orders in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. Typical duties include vehicle maintenance and repair. Other duties include but are not limited to maintenance activities associated with the trades of carpentry, painting, drywall, electrical, roofing, forestry, welding, excavation, paving, concrete, masonry, HVAC, landscaping, janitorial, snow removal, metal work, pest management, and equipment repair work. This position is suitable for transitional duty.

Primary Responsibilities

1. General Maintenance and Repair: 70%

1. Perform routine preventative vehicle maintenance
2. Performs vehicle inspection, diagnostics, and repair
3. Minor electrical work, troubleshooting, and repair
4. Minor welding or fabrication
5. Performs snow and ice removal at all MetroParks facilities including roads, sidewalks, etc.

2. Equipment Operation: 20%

1. Operate project specific equipment including but not limited to; heavy equipment, power tools, hand tools, survey and measuring equipment
2. Cleans, maintains, and inspects equipment

3. Other: 10%

1. Assist with MetroParks events as determined by Operations Supervisor or Manager
2. Assist with vehicle and repair record keeping
3. Provides intra-department support as determined by Operations Supervisor or Manager

Essential Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

1. Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate and take instruction
2. Must be able to maintain a continuous positive attitude and professional appearance
3. Knowledge of current industry trends in the field of maintenance including various individual trades best management practices and techniques
4. Ability to operate various types of maintenance tools, equipment, and vehicles
5. Ability to multi-task and complete assignments in an efficient and timely manner
6. Ability to read and interpret plans, details, specifications, and operating manuals
7. Knowledge of MetroParks rules and regulations, policies and procedures, as well as union labor agreements
8. Must possess proficient technological skills and abilities in the operation of standard computer software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office products, email, internet, smart phone capabilities, and time tracking software
9. Must be accessible and available on short notice for call-outs

Education/ Qualifications

1. Must be at least 18 years old
2. Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio Commercial Driver's License
3. Must be able to respond to emergency call-outs as necessary
4. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent along with continued education or technical school trade certification or apprenticeship
5. A minimum of three (3) years of general vehicle maintenance and repair

Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform Job Functions

1. Must be physically able to perform all tasks inherent to the position
2. Able to perform hard physical labor in all indoor and outdoor environments
3. Ability to operate construction vehicles, such as dump trucks, backhoes, dozers, etc.
4. Ability to work from different degreed of height by using ladders, scaffolding, etc.
5. Ability to stand for long periods of time
6. Ability to lift 50+ pounds
7. Must be able to use both hands to work with all necessary tools and equipment
8. Able to bend and twist easily from waist
9. Ability to reach above head with both arms
10. Have excellent eye sight
11. Have physical and mental endurance to work long hours when necessary
12. Ability to walk, traverse, or otherwise access trails of all types, natural terrain, construction sites, and all properties under control of the MetroParks under all types of conditions
