Job Description
Some firms defend employers. The best ones shape how employment law gets practiced.
This is a rare opening for a senior associate who wants to be in the room where strategy gets built, not just executed. The firm's employment defense practice handles some of the most complex and high-stakes employer-side matters in the region, and they are growing intentionally, meaning the next person in the door gets real responsibility from day one.
What you will be doing
- Defending employers in single plaintiff and class/collective action litigation involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination claims in state and federal court
- Handling wage and hour disputes, FLSA collective actions, and Department of Labor audits from investigation through resolution
- Drafting and enforcing non-compete agreements, non-solicitation clauses, and trade secret protections, and litigating when it gets to that point
- Representing clients before the EEOC, Texas Workforce Commission, OSHA, and other state and federal agencies
- Advising HR leadership and C-suite clients on day-to-day employment decisions, handbook development, RIF planning, and termination risk before problems become lawsuits
- Taking and defending depositions, managing discovery, and arguing motions. This is a group that tries cases
- Working directly with partners on strategy, not just execution
What we are looking for
- 4 to 8 years of management-side employment defense experience
- Meaningful litigation experience. You have moved cases, not just supported them
- Comfort in front of clients, in the courtroom, and across the table from opposing counsel
- Texas-specific knowledge matters here. You understand the Northern District, the Fifth Circuit, and how TWC and EEOC matters actually play out in this state
- Board certification in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization is a plus, not a requirement
- Portable business is welcomed but not expected
Why this is worth your attention
The attorneys here are serious, the clients are sophisticated, and the work reflects it. You will not be shuffled into a corner of the practice. If you have been doing good work at a firm that has not given you a clear answer on where you are headed, this is the conversation worth having.
