Job Description and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities: Lifeguards ensure the safety of all patrons by monitoring pool activities, enforcing rules, responding to emergencies, and assisting swimmers. The SVCA Pool is open from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend daily.
Description of Duties:
- Enforce all pool and community center rules.
- Monitor pool activities, identify safety concerns, and perform rescues/first aid as needed.
- Assist with opening and closing duties, including setting up/breaking down furniture, lifeguard stations, and testing pool chemicals.
- Maintain pool cleanliness by removing debris, vacuuming, and skimming.
- Document incidents, rescues, and rule violations accurately.
- Conduct routine safety checks of lifeguard gear and emergency supplies.
- Monitor weather conditions to ensure guest safety.
- Ensure proper setup for scheduled parties/rentals.
- Attend mandatory SVCA lifeguard trainings (June 10th, July 15th, August 5th).
- Assist patrons as needed.

Work Experience/ Educational Requirements: (Suitable work experience may substitute for Educational Requirements)
- Must be 16+ with a valid Lifeguard, First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- SVCA Certification course: May 15-17, 2026 (paid for by SVCA).
- Mandatory refresher for certified guards: May 16, 2026 (paid for by SVCA).
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
- Flexible schedule, including weekends.
Supervision:
Works under the direction of the Recreation Manager.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and occasional lifting (25 lbs). Requires hand coordination, visual focus, and cognitive awareness. Ability to swim and pass lifeguard fitness test. Indoor and outdoor work, including possible inclement weather. Required weekly fitness and skills tasks may be implemented.
