Lead Fiber Install Technician


Location: Berthoud, CO (Travel throughout Colorado and Southern Wyoming)
Job Type: Direct Hire
Pay: $25–$35/hour


We are seeking an experienced Lead Fiber Install Technician to support the continued expansion of fiber optic infrastructure across Colorado. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on fiber professional who enjoys field work, leading by example, and working with a company that invests in its employees and provides the equipment needed to succeed.


Company travel typically covers Cheyenne, WY to Colorado Springs, CO, including locations east of the Front Range.


Schedule

  • Four 10-hour shifts (Monday–Thursday)
  • Start time: 6:45 AM
  • Occasional Friday work or emergency outage response as needed
  • Overtime opportunities available based on workload and weather


Compensation & Benefits

What You'll Do

As a Lead Fiber Install Technician, you'll perform and lead a variety of fiber installation activities, including:

  • Install underground and aerial fiber optic cable
  • Pull and blow fiber cables, including traditional, loose tube, armored, micro, and ribbon cable
  • Operate reel trailers, compressors, tuggers, bull wheels, micro cable blowers, and other cable placement equipment
  • Drive company trucks with trailers (CDL not required)
  • Perform cable routing, proofing, slack storage, and conduit installation
  • Troubleshoot cable placement issues using rodders and other field equipment
  • Coordinate with Foremen and Project Managers to ensure safe and efficient installations
  • Train and support apprentice technicians
  • Communicate professionally with customers and internal teams
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and follow company safety procedures


Qualifications

Required

  • Experience installing underground and/or aerial fiber optic cable
  • Experience pulling and blowing fiber cable
  • Knowledge of traditional, loose tube, armored, micro, and ribbon fiber
  • Experience operating cable installation equipment, including:
    • Reel trailers
    • Compressors
    • Tuggers
    • Bull wheels
    • Micro cable blowers
    • Rodders for troubleshooting
  • Ability to drive trucks with trailers
  • Clean driving record
  • Strong troubleshooting and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel throughout the service area


Preferred

  • Experience with hydraulic pulling, air-assisted blowing, or aerial installation methods
  • Bucket truck and pole climbing experience
  • Familiarity with strand-and-lash, ADSS, Figure-8 cable, and drop cable installations
  • OTDR experience is a plus, but not required
