Position Description
The Assistant Superintendent supports the Lead Superintendent and Project Manager in the successful completion of assigned projects by managing daily field operations as directed. This role focuses on disciplined planning, coordination, inspection, and execution within assigned scopes, areas, or zones of work. The Assistant Superintendent prepares work before it begins, tracks make-ready conditions, coordinates trades, and inspects job-site safety and quality using approved standards. The role also supports project scheduling, communication, and early escalation of issues when needed. While not responsible for overall project outcomes, the Assistant Superintendent is expected to demonstrate reliability, preparation, and inspection discipline in all assigned responsibilities. Working under the direction of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent leads the project foreman and is expected to make independent decisions to effectively execute assigned tasks.
Time Allocation: ~70% field inspection, coordination, and preparation; ~20% planning and reporting support; ~10% training and development.
Minimum Qualifications
- Previous experience in construction supervision, trade leadership, or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of construction sequencing, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Ability to observe work critically and communicate clearly.
- Willingness to learn and operate standardized systems and tools.
- Positive attitude toward discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Excellent written/oral communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and schedules.
- Applicant must have a positive attitude towards change. Able to identify the need, remove the barriers and has the know how to make things happen. Values diversity of ideas, opinions, and people.
Essential Functions
Endorse Standards (Field System Support)
- Support installation and operation of daily and weekly planning rhythms.
- Ensure assigned planning tools and logs are complete and accurate.
- Reinforce safety, quality, and sequencing standards in the field.
- Protect role clarity: support execution through preparation and inspection—not task takeover.
Inspect for Results (Assigned Scope Verification)
- Inspect assigned scopes against daily and weekly commitments.
- Verify make-ready conditions before work begins.
- Inspect safety and quality using approved checklists.
- Surface and escalate constraints before they impact execution.
Lead & Support Crews / Trades
- Coordinate crews and trades within assigned areas.
- Communicate daily expectations clearly.
- Support Foremen and Superintendents with field observations and reporting.
Follow-Up & Accountability
- Track completion of assigned commitments.
- Support corrective action implementation.
- Capture lessons learned to prevent repeat issues.
