The City of Watseka is looking to add a Building Inspector to our team.

Applicants must pass a physical, drug screening, and background check. Salary is dependent on experience and licenses.

What you’ll do:

1. Building Inspector

  • Process and issue building permits.
  • Conduct building inspections related to projects and permits.
  • Answer citizens/applicants’ questions regarding projects in a timely fashion.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with state and federal agencies.
  • Continuing education/certification ICC building codes.
  • Improve ISO-BECGS rating.
  • Attend monthly Code Committee meetings and submit detailed reports.

2. Flood Mitigation Program Administrator

  • Maintain files (Title Commitments, Appraisals, Closing Docs.)
  • Maintain workflow with appraisers and make offers to participants.
  • Work with the State to schedule closings.
  • Advertise for demolitions and work with contractors to demolish.
  • Invoice State for reimbursements.

3. Floodplain Management

  • Enforce floodplain ordinance.
  • Continuing education in floodplain management.
  • Maintain relationships with State and Federal agencies.
  • Attending yearly IAFSM conference.

4. Community Rating System (CRS) Coordinator

  • Maintain City participation in Community Rating System.
  • Work to improve City (CRS) rating.
  • Continuing education/training.

5. Crime Free Rental

  • Training and certification for Crime Free Housing
  • License and manage landlord Licenses.
  • Maintain files of licensed landlords, tenants, and inspections.
  • Invoice and collect yearly license fee.
  • Conduct Security and Safety Inspections.
  • Conduct Crime Free seminars as needed.

6. Code Enforcement

  • Enforce City Codes/Ordinances and Issue Citations for non-compliance.
  • Respond to residents’ code enforcement complaints/concerns.
  • Attend Municipal/Adjudication Hearings.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $24/hr to $29/hr.
