Job Summary We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Specialist to support facilities and laboratory operations. This role requires expertise in multiple trades, including plumbing, electrical, and general building maintenance, with a focus on laboratory equipment and utilities. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to work independently in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform proactive maintenance and repairs across plumbing, electrical, and general building systems
- Operate, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and inspect laboratory equipment and tools
- Maintain laboratory utilities including compressed air, RO/DI water, natural gas, oxygen, nitrogen, and gas detection systems
- Install soft and rigid tubing for air, gas, and water applications
- Prepare, install, and relocate laboratory equipment such as incubator shakers, biosafety cabinets, centrifuges, freezers, refrigeratos, and chillers
- Perform seismic bracing for laboratory and process equipment
- Safely operate moving equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, hydraulic dollies, and specialty tools
- Coordinate with external vendors or contractors for specialized repairs
- Create and maintain accurate records and reports using Excel spreadsheets
- Support relocation and installation projects in compliance with EH&S requirements
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma with technical diploma (AA/AS in Facilities Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or trade school courses)
- 5+ years of experience in facilities maintenance, preferably in a laboratory environment
- Experience with repair and service of laboratory equipment and instrumentation
- Training or past certification in forklift operations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and cloud services (OneDrive, Teams)
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Familiarity with safe handling procedures for laboratory equipment
- Ability to work at heights (up to 15’), in varying environmental conditions, and with protective equipment as required
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Prior experience coordinating with external vendors for specialized laboratory repairs
- Knowledge of EH&S compliance standards
Certifications (if any)
- Respirator certification (required to obtain during employment)
- Forklift operations certification (preferred)
