The Faculty of Science consists of five departments (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics) that offer a wide variety of undergraduate BSc programs, and over twenty-five degree possibilities, including joint and concurrent degree options in arts and science and computer science and science. These degree options include a BSc in Psychology and a joint program in Geological Engineering between the Departments of Earth Sciences and Civil Engineering. All departments in the Faculty of Science offer both Masters and PhD research-based programs, with approximately 150 graduate students currently supported by over 100 faculty, adjunct and honorary research associate’s.

As Dean, Faculty of Science, you will be responsible for the overall management of the Faculty of Science, providing strategic and effective leadership for students, faculty, the University and the scientific community. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, you will contribute to the development of the Faculty’s academic programs, teaching and research, promoting a student-centred approach, teamwork and engagement across departments. Reporting to the Vice President Academic (Fredericton) and working closely with the President and Vice-Chancellor, decanal colleagues and other members of the University’s senior management team, you will be a champion of the UNB Toward 2030 Strategic Plan and the University’s drive to turn ideas into action.

As the ideal candidate for Dean, you possess a strong scientific, academic and research background, with a demonstrated capacity for leadership and a commitment to excellence in teaching and research. The new Dean will be a strategic, collaborative leader with strong interpersonal and communication skills and the vision to build on the momentum that the Faculty has achieved in recent years.  You have the credibility and enthusiasm to develop and strengthen relationships with the external community, including alumni, donors and business and scientific leaders, to engage them in supporting and advancing the strategic mission of the Faculty; and the ability to support and mentor students, so as to advance their educational experience and their engagement with the broader learning environment. The new Dean’s background and credentials will merit an appointment as full professor in a Science department at UNB.
