Job Title: Chief Engineer

Department: Maintenance / Engineering

Reports to: General Manager

Status: Non-Exempt / Hourly

Job Summary:

Oversees the hiring, scheduling, and efficiency of Maintenance employees and all projects within at the hotel. Keeps every aspect of the property in good repair and safe working order. Maintains a high-quality level of work. Responds to the guest’s needs in a timely, efficient, and friendly manner.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all work orders are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance programs for the property/equipment.
  • Adhere to all brand standards for maintenance and safety.
  • Oversees any/all staff in maintenance department including hiring, training, scheduling and work production. Inspects all work for quality and safety. Schedule Maintenance staff in accordance with budget and Labor Models
  • Knowledge of fire alarm and evacuation procedures.
  • Tests and maintains water content of swimming pool and whirlpool in accordance with local and state requirements.
  • Maintain and secures parts and supplies inventory, advising General Manager on items needed.
  • Inspects, maintains, and cleans outside grounds, including parking lot, curbs, and landscaping.
  • Inspect and maintains elevators.
  • Knowledge of OSHA procedures and training.
  • Repair furniture and structures such as cabinets, tables, chairs, windows, bed frames, etc.
  • Does painting, touch-up painting, and finishing of furniture and building.
  • Checks electrical systems such as refrigerator controls, phone systems, televisions, lock systems, HVAC units and making repairs as necessary.
  • Checks and makes repairs on general plumbing systems such as pipelines, toilets, tubs, sinks, whirlpools, pools and drains.
  • Solicits three bids from contractors, discusses with GM, and oversee any work done.
  • Complete a weekly preventative maintenance logs.
  • Maintain a clean and attractive work area, uniform, and person.
  • Maintain and test all life safety systems.
  • Must be responsible for security of guests, fellow employees and hotel assets.
  • Must be CPR certified, MSDS trained, and completed brand specific training program.
  • Must perform any other required duties as requested by the General Manager to aid in better operation of the hotel, restaurant, lounge, and service to the guests.
  • Keep confidential the business functions of the company including, but not limited to, financial status, customer/guest information, employee issues, etc.
  • Communicates with guests in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Does not make any purchases without purchase order approved by General Manager
  • Immediately reports guest issues to Manager on Duty
  • Always in proper costume/uniform.

Requirements:

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Have a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation available to pick up supplies.
  • Must be skilled in several areas such as HVAC, electrical, carpentry, dry walling, painting, plumbing, roofing, and landscaping.
  • Must have an outgoing personality and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and Holidays and work MOD shift as necessary.
  • Must be dependable, honest and work well with others.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair routine mechanical and electrical malfunctions in hotel systems and equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to be responsive to complaints about maintenance.
  • Must have the ability to communicate in English. Self-starting personality with an even disposition.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times. Can communicate well with guests. Must be willing to "pitch-in" and help co- workers with their job duties and be a team player.
  • Must be able to recognize potential safety hazards and security problems in the hotel and act upon each accordingly

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • 3 years in a hotel or facilities maintenance position preferred
  • 6 months or more of supervisory experience preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees any/all staff in maintenance department including hiring, training, scheduling and work production.
  • Inspects all work for quality and safety.
  • Schedule Maintenance staff in accordance with budget and Labor Models.

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand/walk on feet for 8 hours and work in a restrictive space/environment.
  • Must have eyesight enabling vision both near and far.
  • Finger dexterity for operating machinery and hand tools, computer.
  • Must speak in a clear, understandable voice and hear at a basic level, and understand English.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch arms overhead and lift and/or carry up to 100 pounds.
