Our law group is growing, and we are looking for a sharp family attorney who will zealously represent clients in all areas of family law. You’ll assist individuals in a variety of situations, such as navigating prenuptial agreements and attending court hearings for divorce, alimony/spousal support, and child support. The prime candidate will have experience with a range of sensitive legal issues such as child abuse, child custody, and domestic violence, and be able to maintain composure, negotiate, and argue effectively even in emotional and high-stress situations. Compensation:
$80,000 - $115,000 yearly
Responsibilities:
- Attend court proceedings as needed to represent clients
- Maintain client files to ensure they are properly organized and up to date
- Create legal documents such as pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgements and orders for a high volume of cases
- Manage the division of marital assets, including real estate, during divorce proceedings when needed
- Communicate with senior partners and paralegals to effectively move through the civil litigation process

- Represent clients in court proceedings as needed

- Advocate on behalf of clients by understanding their needs, effectively analyzing the situation, and forming a strategy for a plan of action
- Draft pleadings, motions, contracts, marital settlement agreements, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases
- Represent clients in hearings, mediations, and trials
- Direct and supervise the work of support staff
- Draft pleadings and orders
- Prepare equitable distribution charts
- Conduct monthly file review meetings
- Monitor retainer balances and communicate replenishment needs to the billing specialist
- Communicate with the client to understand their goal and develop a corresponding strategy to meet those goals
- Represent clients in appeals when necessary
Qualifications:
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, especially in highly stressful and emotional situations
- At least 1-2 years of working in a law firm on family law issues as well as real estate (determining marital property) is necessary
- Ability to successfully represent both plaintiff and defendant sides of a case
- Active membership with the ABA (American Bar Association)
- Extra consideration for those with a criminal justice background
- Candidate must have a license to practice law in either West Virginia or Ohio and be willing to obtain the other state licensure upon being offered employment
- Prior family law experience is preferred but not required
- Excellent oral communication skills
- Ability to stay calm under pressure
- Empathy for clients with a genuine desire to improve their lives
- Juris Doctor Degree
- Great Negotiation Skills
- Willingness to travel to other areas of the state for hearings and meetings
