Job Description

Job Summary:
Brightwell Behavioral Health is seeking a dedicated, professional Security Guard to join our team at our 24/7 inpatient behavioral health facility. This role is essential to maintaining a safe, calm, and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors during the overnight hours. This is a non-armed position focused on safety, de-escalation, and observation rather than enforcement. The shift will be 10am to 6:30pm and will include weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and control facility access, including verifying all visitors and contractors during overnight hours.
  • Conduct routine security checks of facility grounds and internal areas.
  • Assist clinical staff with de-escalating and safely managing situations involving unruly or agitated patients in accordance with facility protocols.
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the night to deter incidents and promote a secure environment.
  • Respond promptly to calls for assistance from staff or patients.
  • Document all incidents, unusual behavior, and security-related issues in daily logs and incident reports.
  • Monitor surveillance systems and alarms to detect and respond to security concerns.
  • Ensure that emergency exits, doors, and other secured areas remain properly locked and free from obstruction.
  • Follow all facility policies, especially regarding HIPAA, patient confidentiality, and respectful, trauma-informed care.

  • Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in security, preferably in a healthcare or behavioral health setting.
  • Ability to remain calm and act decisively in stressful situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; capable of working effectively with individuals experiencing mental health crises.
  • Must be physically able to stand, walk, and respond quickly throughout an 8–9 hour shift.
  • De-escalation or crisis intervention training (e.g., CPI, PMAB, or similar) preferred or willingness to complete upon hire.
  • Background check and health screening required prior to employment.

Work Environment:
This role involves working in an inpatient behavioral health setting where exposure to individuals with acute psychiatric needs may occur. The position requires alertness, professionalism, and compassion.
