Compensation:
$65,000+ yearly depending on experience
Responsibilities:
- Prepare legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings such as complaints, interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavits, under the supervision of a lawyer
- Take care of administrative tasks such as answering phones and maintaining an organized filing system for all legal documents
- Aid lawyers in trial preparation by preparing and organizing exhibits, organizing and coordinating witnesses, conducting research on legal articles, and assisting with client meetings and filing motions
- Gather information about legal issues from the client in interviews
- Draft subpoenas and coordinate with process servers
- Independently manage ongoing case files and deadlines
- Prepare and draft legal pleadings, discovery, affidavits, motions, and correspondence
- Conduct legal research and help prepare attorneys for hearings and trials
- Communicate with clients professionally — in person and by phone/email
- Schedule and coordinate client meetings, deposition notices, hearings, etc
- File documents with courts and ensure procedural compliance
- Track case progress and update attorneys proactively
- Maintain meticulous and organized case files
Qualifications:
- Candidates should possess high-level organizational skills, and time-management skills
- Candidates must have completed an ABA-approved paralegal certificate program such as an Associate’s degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 3 years of experience in legal services under an attorney or lawyer in a law firm setting
- Strong preference for candidates who have completed a paralegal professional certification or have an advanced paralegal education
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Required:
- 3+ years of paralegal experience in family law (required)
- Demonstrable ability to manage one's own cases independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Confidence in interacting and meeting with clients
- Proficiency with legal case management software and MS Office
Preferred:
- ABA-approved paralegal certificate or bachelor’s degree
- Experience with civil litigation and court procedures
