Key responsibilities include assisting with personal hygiene (bathing, grooming), mobility (transferring, ambulation), meal preparation and feeding, light housekeeping, and providing emotional support and companionship. PCAs work in various settings, including private homes, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes, and document care activities while communicating with families and healthcare professionals.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Personal Care:Assisting with bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, and toileting.
  • Mobility:Helping clients move around, transfer from a bed or wheelchair, and ambulate (walk).
  • Meal Management:Planning and preparing nutritious meals, feeding clients, and assisting with shopping.
  • Household Tasks:Performing light housekeeping, such as making beds, doing laundry, and maintaining a clean living environment.
  • Companionship:Providing emotional support, engaging in conversations, participating in hobbies, and accompanying clients to social events.
  • Medication Reminders:Assisting clients with taking their medication on time, as directed by a care plan.

Work Environment & Collaboration

  • Settings:PCAs work in diverse environments, including clients' homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities.
  • Communication:PCAs must effectively communicate changes in a client's condition or needs to supervisors, family members, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Record Keeping:They are responsible for documenting care services, observations, and any changes in the client's health or behavior.
