As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you'll work alongside experienced project managers and operations leaders, gaining exposure to every phase of project execution—from estimating and procurement to field operations and client coordination. What You'll Do
As a key member of the project team, you'll help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and successfully while exceeding client expectations.
Project Coordination & Execution
- Partner with Project Managers and Operations leadership to support ongoing and upcoming mechanical construction projects.
- Coordinate project activities between field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to maintain progress and schedules.
- Help ensure projects are completed safely, on budget, on schedule, and in accordance with company and client standards.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, and execution activities from kickoff through closeout.
Procurement & Material Management
- Assist with project buyout activities and procurement of equipment and materials.
- Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to expedite deliveries and maintain project schedules.
- Verify purchased materials comply with project specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
- Track material status and proactively identify potential supply chain impacts.
Technical Support
- Review project plans, specifications, process flow diagrams, piping isometrics, and construction drawings.
- Interpret design intent and support field teams with technical questions and project documentation.
- Manage RFIs and ensure project teams are working from the most current drawings and specifications.
- Assist in resolving project challenges through effective coordination with engineering, construction, and client teams.
Cost Control & Project Administration
- Support budget tracking and project cost management within company systems.
- Assist with monthly owner and subcontractor payment applications.
- Maintain accurate records of submittals, approvals, change orders, and project documentation.
- Monitor project performance and help identify opportunities for improved efficiency and cost savings.
Estimating & Business Development Support
- Assist in preparing estimates for new project opportunities.
- Perform material takeoffs and labor calculations.
- Solicit vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Support proposal development and project planning efforts.
What You BringRequired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Internship or early-career engineering experience in construction, manufacturing, industrial, or mechanical systems environments.
- Approximately 1 year of construction experience, preferably with a mechanical contractor, industrial contractor, or general contractor.
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Mechanical drawings
- Piping isometrics
- Process and flow diagrams
- Construction plans and specifications
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- A self-starter mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Field experience supporting industrial construction projects.
- Exposure to power generation, manufacturing, process systems, or chemical facilities.
- Experience with estimating, scheduling, or project controls.
- Knowledge of change order management and engineering change processes.
- Interest in developing a long-term career in construction project management.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glen Burnie, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $130000.00/hr.
