This position combines the operational responsibilities of a traditional Managed Services Provider (MSP) environment with modern software engineering practices. The Operations Automation Engineer will configure, automate, and continuously improve the systems supporting customer service, service delivery, reporting, and operational workflows.
Previous MSP experience is valuable but not required. Key Responsibilities
MSP Operations
- Configure and administer customer service and ticketing platforms.
- Design customer workflows, queues, escalations, notifications, and reporting.
- Maintain operational standards, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Monitor service-delivery metrics and recommend improvements.
- Assist with customer onboarding and operational system configuration.
- Improve the customer experience through ongoing process optimization.
Automation and Software Development
- Develop automation using APIs, scripting, and low-code or no-code platforms.
- Build integrations between internal applications and third-party business systems.
- Design AI-assisted workflows that improve operational efficiency.
- Develop custom tools and dashboards supporting service operations.
- Configure intelligent routing, notifications, approvals, and workflow automation.
- Identify and eliminate repetitive manual tasks through software engineering.
- Contribute to the continued development of a next-generation operations platform.
AI and Emerging Technologies
- Use modern AI platforms to improve and accelerate operational processes.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend practical improvements.
- Help design AI-assisted customer service and support processes.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to implement new capabilities using large language models, automation frameworks, and intelligent orchestration.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience with at least one programming language, such as Python, JavaScript, C#, Java, or Go.
- Understanding of APIs and modern web technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Technical curiosity and a demonstrated desire to learn.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI development tools and platforms.
- Hands-on experience using large language models such as ChatGPT, Claude, or GitHub Copilot.
- Experience developing software integrations.
- Familiarity with REST APIs and JSON.
- Experience working with SQL databases.
- Familiarity with PowerShell or Bash scripting.
- Understanding of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or AWS.
- Exposure to Git and modern source-control practices.
Bonus Experience
- Autotask, Datto, or Kaseya.
- Workflow automation platforms.
- Microsoft Power Platform.
- Zapier, Make, n8n, or similar integration tools.
- Previous experience within an MSP or IT services environment.
