Facilities Technician

Grace Fellowship Church is prayerfully searching for our next Facilities Technician (“Technician”) to join our facilities team and help us care for our buildings and properties. The ideal candidate will be a Jesus follower with a passion for supporting the church’s mission of sharing the gospel, as well as a proven track record of success in contributing to facilities functions.

The Role

The Technician helps maintain the facilities and physical grounds of Grace Fellowship Church’s campuses. This includes performing maintenance, repair, upkeep, and installation in the areas of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, construction, renovation, painting, general & preventative, fire & security, life safety, pest control, housekeeping, moving, work orders, signage, events & setups, and all other job activities (detailed in the addendum).

The Technician works within the facilities team, under the leadership of the Facilities Director, providing subject matter expertise to collaboratively reach church goals and objectives. The Technician will interact with staff, church members, volunteers and vendors, with the constant focus on helping us create and maintain first-class campuses. The Technician should always present themselves in a professional manner, seeking to relate with the staff and model a healthy Christian lifestyle and relational discipleship. This role is hands-on. Locations are our campuses in Katy, Texas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in the facilities/maintenance or related field.
  • Strong understanding of preventative maintenance and general repairs.
  • Experience working in a church.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and work order systems.
  • Our desire is the Technician makes Grace Fellowship Church their regularly attended home church.

Additional Information

Salary & Benefits

The salary will be commensurate with experience. This position is an exempt, salaried position. Grace Fellowship’s benefits are outlined in the Employee Handbook, but currently include paid vacation, church-paid health insurance for employee-only coverage, life insurance, long & short-term disability insurance, and a 403(b) plan.

Working Hours

The Technician is encouraged to develop a working schedule that maximizes both time with family and productive time accomplishing the job. The position is 40 hours per week. The working days are Monday – Friday, occasionally alternating days to work on Sunday.

Work Authorization

The Technician must be authorized to work in United States under Federal requirements.

Addendum

Facilities Technician

In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the Facilities Technician (“Technician”) will be responsible for the following, as needed, under the direction of the Facilities Director and in partnership with the facilities team. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Electrical & Lighting

  • Survey buildings and repair mechanical and minor electrical systems to ensure they are consistent with health and safety standards
  • Perform maintenance of electrical systems including replacing light bulbs, ballasts, sockets, light switches, electrical outlets, tripped electrical breakers, etc.
  • Perform maintenance of lighting systems including the replacement of light bulbs, ballasts, installation of new fixtures, the replacement of parking lot lights and wall packs with LED fixtures
  • Check electrical and control panels and electrical wiring to identify issues such as tripped breakers, etc.

Plumbing

  • Maintain plumbing systems to ensure proper functionality including repair and replacement of leaking faucets/drains, replacement of flush kits, clearing of drains, etc.
  • Maintain the baptismal font including servicing and repairing of pumps, filters, valves, piping, and heater as needed, the cleaning of the font via netting and vacuuming, and the maintenance of the safety grates

HVAC

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and assist in the identification of issues and repairs when necessary, regarding equipment and systems for ventilation, refrigeration, heating and other HVAC systems
  • Maintain heating and cooling systems to ensure functionality
  • Make minor repairs to HVAC systems such as replacement of thermostats, resets of controllers, etc.

Construction, Renovation and Painting

  • Perform renovations involving the construction or demolition of walls, tape and floating of walls, texturing of walls, painting of walls, doors and trim, installation of base molding, installation of doors, etc.
  • Conduct painting of facilities as needed including patching drywall, sanding, re-texturing of walls, priming, and painting as necessary
  • Collaborate with workers and other professionals during renovations

General Maintenance

  • Perform manual repairs as necessary such as replacing hinges, fixing/replacing locks, replacing rollers/wheels on carts, replacing windows, repairing/replacing window shades, etc.
  • Assemble furniture and accessories as requested
  • Perform minor fixes such as repairing and replacing broken locks, hinges, door stops, filling cracks/gaps on walls, etc.
  • Adjust and replace door closers, as needed
  • Perform flooring maintenance and minor repairs such as the replacement of VCT tiles, carpet tiles, threshold/transition pieces securing/replacement, etc.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Perform prescribed periodic maintenance on golf carts such as inspection/replacement of batteries and electrical systems, washing, greasing, etc.
  • Perform prescribed periodic maintenance of scissor lift such as inspection/replacement of batteries, inspection/repair of wiring, inspection/repair of hydraulics, mechanical linkage, etc.
  • Test emergency/back-up batteries on prescribed periodic schedule
  • Test AEDs on prescribed periodic schedule
  • Assist with testing/inspection of fire alarm systems including fire panel, sprinkler systems, backflow preventers, etc.
  • Assist with required safety inspections of inflatables

Fire & Security/Life Safety

  • Check functionality of safety systems (e.g., fire alarms)
  • Inspect alarm systems (fire, burglar protection), perform minor repairs and schedule repairs via vendor(s) when needed
  • Inspect and maintain access control systems
  • Respond to alarms from fire and burglar monitoring services as appropriate

Assembly and Installation

  • Install appliances and equipment
  • Assemble furniture, playground equipment, etc.

Pest Control/Extermination

  • Undertake activities of pest control such as spraying insecticide, treating for ants, etc.

Housekeeping

  • Conduct general upkeep and housekeeping procedures (e.g., landscaping, picking up of debris/trash) and other tasks as assigned (painting, carpentry etc.)
  • Perform cleaning activities such as mopping up spills, overflowed sinks, etc. as needed
  • Perform pressure washing of sidewalks, porches, exterior walls, driveways, etc.
  • Pull trash and dispose of in dumpster as requested

Moving

  • Move furniture, office equipment, computers, filing cabinets, etc. as needed for new staff, staff moves, renovations, etc.
  • Must be able to lift and move heavy objects, weighing more than 50lbs

Work Order System

  • Perform work as assigned via the work order system, enter comments, as appropriate, and mark the work as “completed” when done
  • Monitor, prioritize, and schedule work from the work order system
  • Manage and schedule work to ensure it does not interfere with operational needs of ministries

Signage

  • Erect and perform maintenance of exterior signs for advertising church events (such as Financial Peace University, Marriage Matters, Alpha, etc.) by replacing damaged parts of sign frames, anchoring signs with tie-downs/ropes, installation of clings to Worship Center windows, putting up of signs on pillars of building entrances, etc.
  • Install signage on offices for new/moving employees, around the campus for special events, holidays, etc.
  • Install and maintain signage regarding parking lots, crosswalks, other safety issues, etc.

Porter Responsibilities

  • While not the primary role of a Technician, from time to time moving and/or setup responsibilities may be requested. This is most likely for large events such as Vacation Bible School (VBS) where multiple setups and/or staging areas are required in a short period of time.

Event Setups

  • Perform/assist with setups for various church-sponsored events including setup of all required items for each event including such items as tables, chairs, white boards, garbage cans, inflatable bounce house, staging of A/V equipment, extension cords, etc.
  • The work order system (currently eSpace) is the primary tool used to request, track, and mark as completed each event setup
  • Staying abreast of all assigned work orders related to event setups including any recurring ones, e.g., for the numerous semester classes that Grace Fellowship offers, such as DivorceCare, Marriage Matters, etc., and completing them on a timely basis is a critical part of this role
  • Being available for last-minute adjustments to event setups and/or responding to Facilities issues (such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC) in a timely manner just before or during the event is also a key component of the role

Other

  • Assist with the loading of inflatables and ancillary equipment such as blowers and extension cords for church-sponsored activities
  • Assist with maintenance of church-owned inflatables including repairs and the required annual inspections
  • Monitor inventory of materials and equipment
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and health and safety regulations
  • Clean gutters and keep stormwater drainage systems and ditches clear of debris for proper drainage during storm events
  • Other job duties as assigned or requested
  • Conduct business relationships with external contractors, such as HVAC vendors, construction, and electrical firms in a professional manner
