We are seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to join our manufacturing organization near Manchester, Maryland. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys being close to the business and wants a role with meaningful responsibility across month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, inventory, cost accounting, and financial analysis.

The Accounting Manager will work closely with the Controller and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong accounting controls, and timely analysis of business performance.

\n

What You'll Do

\n

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

\n

    \n
  • Support the Controller through the full month-end close process, including preparation and posting of journal entries.
  • \n

  • Prepare and review accruals, prepaids, amortization, fixed assets, and other month-end activity.
  • \n

  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate/resolve variances.
  • \n

  • Analyze income statement accounts and prepare supporting schedules and financial analysis.
  • \n

  • Prepare and maintain accurate month-end close documentation and account reconciliations.
  • \n

  • Help ensure financial reporting complies with GAAP, including applicable revenue recognition requirements.
  • \n

Manufacturing & Cost Accounting

\n

    \n
  • Support accounting activities related to inventory, cycle counts, and annual physical inventory.
  • \n

  • Assist with annual overhead rate calculations and manufacturing cost analysis.
  • \n

  • Support the development and maintenance of standard costs and indirect rates.
  • \n

  • Analyze manufacturing variances, costs, and operational trends to help identify opportunities for improvement.
  • \n

  • Support cost accounting and percentage-of-completion accounting, where applicable.
  • \n

  • Partner with Operations and other departments to understand financial impacts and improve reporting accuracy.
  • \n

\n

Audit, Tax & Corporate Reporting

\n

    \n
  • Support the Controller with schedules and information required by the parent company for internal and external reporting, including SEC reporting.
  • \n

  • Provide supporting schedules and documentation for tax provision and tax return preparation.
  • \n

  • Work directly with internal and external auditors and respond to audit requests and inquiries.
  • \n

  • Ensure accounting documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
  • \n

Analysis & Business Support

\n

    \n
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reports, analysis, and management reporting as needed.
  • \n

  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • \n

  • Identify trends, variances, and potential issues and communicate findings to management.
  • \n

  • Serve as a hands-on accounting resource and potential backup for AR, AP, and payroll functions.
  • \n

  • Continuously look for ways to improve accounting processes, reporting, and efficiency.
  • \n

What We're Looking For

\n

    \n
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred; a Bachelor's degree in Business or related field may be considered.
  • \n

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • \n

  • Strong understanding of the full month-end close process — beyond simply AR/AP, fixed assets, and bank reconciliations.
  • \n

  • Demonstrated experience preparing journal entries, accruals, prepaids, amortization, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
  • \n

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • \n

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to analyze large data sets and build supporting schedules.
  • \n

  • Experience working with auditors and responding to audit requests.
  • \n

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate variances and determine root causes.
  • \n

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a hands-on accounting environment.
