Crystal Cove Conservancy (The Conservancy) is the nonprofit dedicated to the protection, preservation and sustainability of Crystal Cove State Park, located on the traditional and unceded lands of the Acjachemen and Tongva Tribal Nations.
Crystal Cove Conservancy and California State Parks have worked together to develop innovative educational programs that engage K-12 students and community members, preserve historic beach cottages, conserve miles of precious California coastline, steward acres of threatened habitat and promote access for historically-excluded groups.
About the Position
The Retail Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Crystal Cove Conservancy’s retail and gallery operations. This role ensures that stores, galleries and pop-up retail experiences run smoothly, with strong systems around inventory, staffing, scheduling and customer service.
This position is intentionally operations-focused. The Retail Operations Manager translates retail strategy and interpretive intent into consistent daily practice, allowing the Director of Interpretive Retail & Exhibits to focus on vision, interpretation, expansion and partnerships.
Schedule
This is a full-time position that will be expected to work Tuesday through Saturday.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation for this position is $26 - $32 per hour. The Retail Operations Manager is also eligible for the following benefits:

Essential Position Responsibilities Include
Retail Operations & Daily Execution - Ensure retail spaces are staffed, functional and guest-ready during operating hours. Serve as the on-site operational lead for retail stores, galleries and pop-up retail locations.
Inventory Management & POS Systems - Oversee acceptance of incoming shipments, verifying accuracy against purchase orders. Ensure merchandise is accurately tagged and prepared prior to placement in retail spaces. Maintain organized, efficient stockroom systems. Accurately receive products into the POS and inventory management system. Conduct and oversee regular inventory counts and resolve discrepancies.
Staff Scheduling & Team Leadership - Serve as the primary point of contact for retail sales associates and on-site gallery staff. Develop and manage weekly staff schedules, ensuring adequate coverage and labor efficiency. Support onboarding, training and day-to-day supervision of retail staff. Foster a professional, service-oriented environment aligned with Conservancy values.
Customer Service & Administrative Coordination - Monitor and manage the general retail email inbox and respond to customer inquiries. Serve as a point of contact for artist submissions and retail-related inquiries, coordinating reviews as directed. Assist with planning and execution of special retail events, bazaars, openings and pop-ups.
Purchasing & Vendor Support - Track top-selling inventory and identify re-stock needs. Participate in buying meetings, providing insight into sales trends and inventory performance. Track purchase orders and coordinate approved invoices with accounting for timely payment. Set up new vendors in internal systems for non–credit card purchases. Monitor office and retail supply levels and coordinate reordering as needed.
Key Relationships
- Reports to: Director of Interpretive Retail & Exhibits
- Works closely with: Retail Sales Associates, Gallery Staff, Finance Team, Advancement and Programs staff
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in retail operations, inventory management or store management.
- At least 2 years of supervision experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of POS systems and inventory controls.
- Demonstrated experience managing staff schedules and daily operations.
- High attention to detail and comfort working with systems and processes.
- Strong customer service orientation and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in museum stores, nonprofit retail or specialty retail environments preferred but not required.
