Principal Engineer (AI-Augmented Full-Stack, Platform Leadership)
Location: New York City (Hybrid/Onsite as applicable)
Compensation: $250,000 - $275,000 + equity

Our client is a venture-backed, Series B healthtech company based in NYC focused on reducing improper payments and administrative waste in U.S. healthcare. They operate as a claims operations partner for health plans, combining expert clinicians with transparent AI to deliver deeper insights, smarter automation, and better outcomes across the claims lifecycle—ultimately helping drive down costs for plans, providers, and patients.
The Role
Our client is hiring a Principal-level Engineer to drive transformative impact across their platform and product engineering organization. This is a senior technical leadership role for someone who can solve ambiguous, cross-team problems, define architectural standards, and shape technical direction—while still being highly hands-on.
You'll lead and execute multi-system technical roadmaps tied to business outcomes, act as a force multiplier for the org, and champion AI-augmented development practices to improve engineering velocity and quality.
What You'll Do
Technical Leadership
- Architect and design systems affecting large portions of the business with strong focus on scalability, maintainability, and performance
- Own technical design and delivery of complex, multi-system projects and critical infrastructure
- Set direction on code standards, system patterns, and core libraries used across teams
- Drive substantial improvements in platform stability, performance, and scalability
Strategic Impact
- Translate strategic objectives into clear technical roadmaps and deliver them end-to-end
- Partner cross-functionally with product and business leaders to influence technical and business decisions
- Anticipate risks in major initiatives and proactively mitigate them
- Facilitate cross-team alignment and drive decisions across groups with competing priorities
AI-Augmented Development
- Champion adoption of AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to improve developer velocity
- Establish best practices for AI-assisted code generation, review, and refactoring
- Integrate AI tools into the engineering lifecycle and measure productivity improvements
Mentorship & Influence
- Mentor senior engineers and serve as a force multiplier across the organization
- Influence without formal authority and drive adoption of cross-team technical initiatives
Tech Stack (Core)
- TypeScript, Python, GraphQL, PostgreSQL
- Cloud infrastructure: AWS preferred
- DevOps/CI/CD + containerization: Docker, Kubernetes
What Our Client Is Looking For
Required
- 15+ years of software engineering experience with strong technical breadth and depth
- Track record delivering complex, high-impact projects spanning multiple teams in enterprise SaaS environments
- Proven ability to define and execute technical vision and strategy at scale
- Expert proficiency in TypeScript, Python, GraphQL, and PostgreSQL
- Experience adopting AI coding assistants and improving team productivity through their use
- Strong full-stack, system design, and cloud fundamentals (AWS preferred)
- Experience with CI/CD, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and DevOps practices
- Strong program/project leadership: planning, risk mgmt, milestones, rollout, and maintenance
- Excellent communication and ability to influence across stakeholders without formal authority
Preferred
- Healthcare technology experience and familiarity with compliance standards (HIPAA / HITRUST)
- Track record building and deploying user-facing AI products, or deploying/integrating AI/ML models
- Domain familiarity with medical billing, healthcare administration, or clinical workflows
- Open source contributions or technical publications
