Function: The Program Specialist-Teen plans, implements, supervises and evaluates activities provided within a specific teen program area.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES: (not all-inclusive)

Under the supervision of the Teen Program Manager, this position is responsible for planning, implementation, and execution of teen youth development programs.

  • Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.

  • Ensures engagement, promotes, and stimulates participation and consistent attendance of teen club members.

  • Effectively implements and administers programs, services, and activities.

  • Ensures engagement, promotes and stimulates participation, and consistent attendance of teen enrolled in activities.

  • Ensures that maintenance and operation of the teen areas are safe and in good sanitary condition. Cleans, sets up and closes down program area on a daily basis. This is mandatory.

  • Supports members emotionally and encourages social development, understanding of others and positive self-concepts successfully.

  • Establishes rapport with teens and provides mentoring, guidance, role modeling to club members and overall direction for their leadership development, artistic skills, physical activity engagement and academic progress, in general.

  • Effectively implements and administers programs, services and activities for teen club members.

  • Monitors and evaluates programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the club at all times.

  • Successfully engages club members in activities and provides a safe environment for members.

  • Supports members emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts successfully.

  • Plans and facilitates purposeful and engaging activities and group projects.

  • Submits regular lesson plans, attendance sheets and reports. Performs other administrative duties.

  • Participates in training and staff development activities.

  • Ensures a productive work environment by participating in club staff meetings.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: (not all inclusive)

  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a Level 2 Background Check and Drug Test, among other background check tools.

  • This position is part time (preferred availability is 2-7 pm).

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • A minimum of two years of work-related skills, knowledge, or experience is required.

  • Certifications and credentials in respective skill-based activity highly preferred

  • CPR and First Aid Certifications preferred.

  • Valid State Driver’s License

  • Must pass pre-employment Level 2 background check and drug test.

  • Experience in working with children and knowledge of youth development.

  • Experience and ability in creating interactive musical activities.

  • Strong organization, time management skills and ability to set priorities.

  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, positive attitude, high level of energy and flexibility.

  • Proven strong communication, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavioral problems.

  • Ability to implement quality programs for youth.

  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.

  • Must be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Required to stand, walk, run, and sit. Able to use hands and fingers on a (computer) keyboard and other office equipment. Able to reach and grasp athletic objects.

  • Able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds during a standard 4- or 8-hour shift.

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

  • The noise level in the work environment is high because work is conducted in a Club setting, indoor/outside.

  • Subject to be in varying environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
