Position Title: Maintenance Technician

Department: Maintenance

Location: Webster Groves, MO

Reports To: Facilities and Maintenance Manager

Classification: Hourly – Non-Exempt

Shift: 6am-230pm Monday-Friday

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving manufacturing equipment, CNC machinery, automated systems, and facility infrastructure to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. This position performs preventive and predictive maintenance, responds to equipment breakdowns, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and assists with facility maintenance projects. The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automation troubleshooting skills within a manufacturing environment.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Equipment and Machinery Maintenance

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system issues and perform timely repairs.
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Repair or replace machine components quickly and efficiently to restore production operations.
  • Install, align, adjust, and test replacement parts and components.
  • Thoroughly clean machines and machine components, removing and reinstalling parts as necessary.

Automation and Controls Support

  • Troubleshoot and maintain automated manufacturing equipment, robotics, sensors, PLC-controlled systems, VFDs, HMIs, and other industrial automation equipment.
  • Assist with equipment upgrades, automation projects, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Support commissioning and startup activities for new equipment and automation systems.
  • Work with engineering and operations teams to improve equipment reliability and performance.

Facility Maintenance

  • Perform maintenance and repair of building systems, including lighting, HVAC, compressed air systems, plumbing, electrical systems, and general facility infrastructure.
  • Assist with facility improvement projects, contractor coordination, and equipment installations.
  • Maintain safety systems and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Complete maintenance work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare reports documenting inspections, repairs, troubleshooting activities, and preventive maintenance performed.
  • Maintain maintenance records, equipment histories, and spare parts inventories.
  • Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and environmental regulations.
  • Support continuous improvement.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance shop and work area.
  • Clean, organize, stock, and otherwise maintain shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Participate in emergency maintenance response activities as required.
  • Assist with training operators on basic equipment care and troubleshooting.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical certification or trade school education preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience maintaining automated equipment and industrial control systems.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and industrial systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Experience using maintenance tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting and programming.
  • Experience with robotics, servo systems, VFDs, and industrial automation.
  • Manufacturing experience in machining, assembly, or metalworking environments.
  • Electrical maintenance experience up to 480V.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work around moving machinery and manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, or on-call schedules as needed.

Work Environment

This position operates in a manufacturing environment and is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, machine noise, temperature variations, and industrial equipment. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
