Job Description

Job Description About the role

Picture a typical week: you review your dispatch in the morning, roll out to a customer facility, and dive into a low/medium-voltage lineup that isn’t behaving. You scope the LV/MV switchgear, verify transformer health, interrogate a PLC sequence, and run diagnostics to isolate the fault. By mid-day you’ve restored service, coached the operator on preventive checks, and documented the work in our field service and ERP tools. Tomorrow, you’re commissioning a new breaker lineup; Friday, you’re supporting a remote SCADA issue to keep a site online without a truck roll. Safety anchors every task you take on.

What you’ll do

  • Execute on-site troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs for electrical power systems and industrial controls, including transformers, circuit breakers, LV/MV switchgear, and PLC-based equipment.
  • Run diagnostics to minimize downtime and restore equipment to spec; support startups and commissioning to verify performance against customer requirements.
  • Serve as the on-site technical point of contact, resolve issues, communicate findings clearly, and provide basic operator training.
  • Capture service notes, test results, and corrective actions; submit thorough reports and performance feedback.
  • Track time, parts, and on-site inventory accurately; collaborate with teammates to meet response targets.
  • Leverage remote troubleshooting tools when appropriate to accelerate resolution.
  • Work in full compliance with company safety policies, OSHA standards, and industry best practices; maintain current safety certifications.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s in electrical engineering or related discipline preferred.
  • Certifications: NFPA 70E, OSHA 30, or similar are a plus.
  • Experience: 3–5 years in field service focused on power systems, electrical equipment, or industrial controls, including hands-on troubleshooting and repair of transformers and breakers.
  • Skills: Strong diagnostic and problem-solving ability; proficiency with field service software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel/Word; clear communicator comfortable explaining technical concepts to customers; self-directed and organized in fast-moving environments.
  • Bonus skills: Exposure to LV/MV systems; foundational PLCs, SCADA, and protective relays.

Other requirements

  • Frequent travel with overnight stays to customer sites and JDC locations across the country.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.
  • Comfort with industry-standard test equipment (multimeters, breaker test sets, etc.).

Location and travel

  • Regional office is in Sterling, VA.
  • Travel is required on a daily/weekly basis to both customer sites and internal field service locations across the region.
  • Occasional travel nationwide.

Core proficiencies

  • 120/208/240/480 Voltage Systems
  • Electrical Installation
  • Electrical Troubleshooting
  • High Voltage Systems
  • Industrial Electrical Experience

Equipment and technologies

  • Switchgear: Mitsubishi, ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Eaton
