Job DescriptionJob Title: Maintenance SupervisorLocation: Linden NJ Position OverviewA fast-paced, refrigerated food manufacturing and distribution facility is seeking an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to lead its maintenance team. This role is responsible for overseeing daily mechanical and electrical maintenance activities, ensuring minimal production downtime, and driving a culture of safety, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement.Key Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of maintenance technicians across multiple shifts, providing direction, training, and performance feedback
- Lead mechanical troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance activities on conveyor systems, motors, gearboxes, pneumatics, VFDs, photoeyes, sensors, and other production equipment
- Coordinate and prioritize work orders to minimize production downtime and meet operational goals
- Oversee electrical diagnostics, including wiring, control panels, PLCs, and 3-phase systems (role split: ~70% mechanical, ~30% electrical)
- Manage the preventive maintenance (PM) program, ensuring schedules are followed and maintenance records are accurately kept
- Collaborate closely with production, sanitation, and quality teams to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently in compliance with GMP, OSHA, and food safety standards
- Assist in vendor coordination, spare parts inventory, and capital project support
- Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities to enhance equipment reliability, maintenance practices, and team development
Qualifications
- 5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or food production environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills; solid electrical knowledge preferred
- Experience working with conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pneumatic systems, and production equipment
- Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting, VFDs, control systems, and basic electrical diagnostics
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-pressure setting
- Experience using preventive maintenance systems (CMMS) and applying maintenance best practices
- Knowledge of GMP, OSHA, and food safety compliance standards
- Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, or off-shifts as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in refrigerated or food manufacturing environments
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
- Technical certifications in mechanical, electrical, or automation systems
