LabN Consulting is seeking a Mid-Level Software Developer with a deep understanding of network protocols to join our advanced systems team. Whether remote or hybrid in the Washington, DC area, this role offers the chance to contribute to high-impact, secure communications solutions used in tactical and enterprise-grade environments.
What You’ll Do
You’ll focus on core protocol and systems-level development that drives critical networking infrastructure. Your work will directly impact secure, real-time communications systems across government and defense sectors.

Design, implement, and maintain protocol-level software in C/C++ or Rust on Linux systems

Develop and optimize network stack behavior and routing protocols for real-world use cases

Troubleshoot complex network issues using tools like Wireshark, tcpdump, and custom logging

Simulate dynamic network environments with tools such as CORE, NS3, or EMANE

Collaborate with senior engineers on secure, performant system architecture and tooling

Contribute to open standards (IETF) and DevSecOps pipelines
What We’re Looking For
This is not an application or web development position. We're seeking someone with strong protocol-level experience and a system-level mindset.

5+ years of hands-on experience in network protocol software development

Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS), and Layer 3 behavior

Solid Linux systems development, including networking internals and kernel modules

Advanced programming skills in C/C++ (Rust, Python, or shell scripting a plus)

Experience with network simulation/emulation environments (CORE, NS3, EMANE)

B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field

U.S. Citizenship required
