Job Description1. Core Technical Knowledge
Understands EBM (Extrusion Blow Molding) machine operation
- Familiar with Uniloy / Bekum / Kautex / Magic / R&B systems
- Can read hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic schematics
- Understands machine safety systems and LOTO
- Knows polymer melt behavior, shear, and die swell
- Understands single-layer and multi-layer extrusion heads
2. Mechanical Skills
- Clamp teardown, rebuild, and alignment
- Extruder teardown and inspection (screw/barrel)
- Ability to install new screws & barrels
- Gearbox inspection and oil service
- Head teardown, cleaning, reassembly
- Die gap adjustment & head centering
- Hydraulic troubleshooting (valves, manifolds, pumps)
- Mold installation and alignment
- Trimmer setup, timing, and rebuild knowledge
- Diagnoses mechanical failures effective
3. Electrical & Controls Skills
- Understands Allen-Bradley PLC fundamentals
- Able to trace faults in ladder logic / I/O
- Capable of 480V and control wiring troubleshooting
- Understands drives, servos, contactors, sensors
- Can calibrate parison programming systems
- Knows temperature control systems (zones, heaters, thermocouples)
4. Processing Skills
- Can perform full machine startup and warmup
- Able to set, adjust, and optimize parison profiles
- Troubleshoots weight variation and distribution issues
- Adjusts cycle time and machine parameters for efficiency
- Understands resin characteristics (HDPE, PP, LDPE, PCR, multi-layer)
- Can perform container qualification (drop test, top load, capacity)
5. Preventive Maintenance
- Performs full mechanical PM checks
- Documents PM findings thoroughly
- Conducts oil sampling and filter replacement
- Services cooling and water systems
- Performs head cleaning and extrusion PM
- Completes maintenance logs and PM reports accurately
6. Troubleshooting Capability
- Diagnoses hydraulic pressure issues
- Identifies extruder output or surging issues
- Troubleshoots temperature zone or heater failures
- Corrects parison programming faults
- Fixes mold alignment and flash issues
- Resolves trimmer and deflashing inconsistencies
7. Professional Skills
- Communicates clearly with operators & management
- Maintains professional customer-facing behavior
- Trains plant personnel effectively
- Writes accurate service reports and recommendations
- Works independently with minimal supervision
- Willing to travel and support emergency service calls
8. Certifications (Preferred)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Lockout/Tag out training
- PLC basics course
- Forklift or man-lift certification
- Polymer processing or technical training (Paulson, Routsis)
