JOB SUMMARY:

The Heavy Equipment & Diesel Technician’s primary responsibility is the repair and maintenance of yellow iron and heavy equipment used in company operations. This includes diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems, engines, drivetrains, and other heavy equipment systems. In addition, the position requires experience with diesel-powered trucks and trailers, as the technician will also inspect, diagnose, and repair these vehicles as needed. Duties include running diagnostic tests, replacing or repairing engines, transmissions, steering mechanisms, braking systems, and testing equipment and vehicles to ensure proper functionality after maintenance.

This role is based primarily out of Austell, GA, but work location will vary daily depending on workflow needs.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on company-owned yellow iron and heavy equipment.

  • Perform repairs on company fleet of diesel engines, DPF systems, and automatic transmissions.

  • Perform air brake system, differential, and whole axle repairs on trucks and trailers.

  • Perform repairs to hydraulic systems on heavy equipment and tractor-trailer wet kits.

  • Communicate with shop leadership for repair details and parts requests.

  • Conduct complete inspections of equipment and vehicles at the time any repair is being performed.

  • Complete all repairs efficiently and safely.

  • Maintain the work area clean and free of debris or objects.

  • Follow thoroughly the safety rules and OSHA compliance procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 1 year of hands-on repair experience with yellow iron/heavy equipment.

  • Experience with diesel engines, DPF systems, and automatic transmissions.

  • Experience with hydraulic systems for heavy equipment, dump, and walking floor systems.

  • Own small and basic tools. The company provides heavier tools such as jacks, bars, and impact wrenches.

  • Experience with diagnostic tools and software is a plus (JPRO, DAVIE4, CUMMINS INSITE, SERVICE RANGER).

  • ASE Certification is a plus.

  • Follow thoroughly the safety rules and procedures.

  • Ability to work a changing schedule based on demand.

  • Must be able to work in the field when required.

Physical Demands

This job in a dynamic environment requires being sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Intermittently balancing, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, and visual acuity. Also requires heavy work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.

Working Conditions

This job is located primarily in an outdoor environment with varying noise levels. There may be varying degrees of temperature. The employee may be interrupted from time to time.
