Role Summary: Provides expert-level administration, development, and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server databases and SQL Cluster environments that support the U.S. Government's enterprise business applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and maintain on-premise and Azure SQL Server environments (2016 – 2022).
- Manage SQL Always On clusters (5 clusters, 2 nodes each) including high-availability, failover, and performance optimization.
- Perform daily monitoring, backup verification, and database health checks using SolarWinds and Idera SQL Diagnostic Manager.
- Implement database security, authentication (Windows, SQL, Azure AD MFA), and encryption (TDE, TLS).
- Troubleshoot database connectivity, query performance, and resource utilization issues.
- Support database changes through ServiceNow tickets and RFCs; ensure response within a few hours and timely resolution.
- Apply patches and upgrades during scheduled after-hours maintenance windows.
- Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, and change logs.
Qualifications
- Experience: 8 + years as a SQL Server DBA; 5 + years in enterprise clustered environments.
- Technical Proficiency: SQL Server 2016–2022, Azure SQL, T-SQL scripting, SSMS, backups, replication, high availability.
- Certifications (preferred): Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, MCSE Data Management & Analytics.
- Clearance: Public Trust
