Job Title: Abrams Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Location: Fort Hood, Texas


Job Summary:

We are seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanics to support maintenance operations at Fort Cavazos, TX. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with Abrams Tank variants (M1A1 SA, M1A2 SEP V2, SEP V3) and be skilled in maintenance, troubleshooting, and modification work orders (MWOs).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on Abrams tank variants
  • Execute Modification Work Orders (MWOs) on M1A1ED, M1A2 SEP V2 & V3 platforms
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical systems using technical manuals and flow diagrams
  • Maintain accountability of special tools, test equipment, and government property
  • Support maintenance, fielding, and retrofit operations as required
  • Work collaboratively with government personnel and team members
  • Perform additional duties assigned by maintenance leadership


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1+ year of mechanical maintenance experience (Abrams tank experience preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of military vehicle tools and test equipment
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be a U.S. Person and eligible to access U.S. military installations (NACI clearance if required)
  • Valid State Driver’s License (ability to obtain tank driver’s license)
  • Ability to pass Abrams Job Proficiency Certification


Physical & Work Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
  • Capable of working in extreme weather conditions
  • Must meet anthropometric requirements (ASR) for enclosed military vehicle operation


Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel as needed for GDLS field operations
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong adherence to safety and operational procedures
