The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) seeks a forward-thinking Director - Sport Technology to lead the planning, development, implementation, and execution of initiatives that integrate and maximize the use of technology across ACC games, events, and broadcasts. This includes technologies used by ACC staff, game officials, coaches, players, and team support personnel, as well as those designed for fan engagement and innovation across all ACC-sponsored sports.
Requirements:
Technology Research, Strategy & Innovation
- Serve as a primary liaison to partners (e.g., DVSport, Apple, Whistle Stop, Vokkero, GSC Communications), vendors, and stakeholders to deploy new and existing tech tools for use in the ACC’s regular season contests and championship events.
- Develop and maintain conference-wide technology guidelines and best practices for member institutions.
- Lead holistic review of current services, research/interview prospective vendors, conduct RFPs, negotiate terms, and administer overall agreement(s) with third parties in this space.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies that enhance officiating and competition, accuracy, fairness, and operational efficiency (e.g., AI, wearable tech, performance tracking).
- Provide technological leadership and support for the development, maintenance, and effectiveness of the ACC Game Day Operations Center.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of IT to align sport technology initiatives with the conference’s broader digital infrastructure, vendor relationships, and technology roadmap.
- Partner with the Chief Revenue Officer to ensure all ACC sport technology assets – such as replay systems, video feeds, performance data, and emerging tech platforms – are optimized for monetization. This includes identifying opportunities for sponsorship activation, digital content licensing, and technology-driven broadcast enhancements.
- Collaborate with the Chief Marketing & Branding Officer to ensure that the conference’s use of technology in athletic competition fully supports and integrates with the ACC’s fan engagement, brand strategy, and digital marketing objectives.
Video & Instant Replay
- Collaborate with the Sr. Vice Presidents, Directors, and Supervisors of Officials for each sport to develop and implement instant replay technology vision.
- Manage the execution of in-venue and remote replay systems (e.g., DVSport).
- On an as-needed basis, develop resources for sport officiating supervisors to have access to video highlight cutting technology and resources.
- Ensure replay standards are met for regular season and postseason play; manage compliance with NCAA protocols.
Broadcast & Production Collaboration
- Identify technology solutions that enhance viewer experience and storytelling.
- Serve as a technology liaison to the ACC Network and other broadcast partners.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Media Partnerships to ensure consistent video capture standards for replay, analysis, and broadcast integration.
Institutional Support & Collaboration
- Organize and lead, in conjunction with the sport Directors, a roster of sport tech contractors that provide institutional support across gameday tech systems.
- Serve as a resource for campus personnel to implement conference policies and systems.
- Develop training materials and lead workshops for institutional and conference personnel on technology usage.
- Develop adoption strategies and success metrics for any sport technology rollouts.
Championship Support
- Contribute to event strategy and execution regarding officiating and operational technology implementation.
- Manage, as needed, vendors for onsite or remote technical support for replay, video, and technological operations during ACC Championships.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in sports technology and/or replay system management.
- Deep familiarity with sports technology systems and vendors, broadcast workflows, and officiating technologies at the collegiate or professional level.
- Demonstrated success in managing complex projects and cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules, particularly those related to video and officiating protocols.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Availability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings and weekends during peak sports seasons and championships.
Preferred Experience
- Experience within a collegiate conference office, professional sports, or progressive tech organization.
- Knowledge of officiating systems, coach communications, and emerging sports tech trends.
- Working knowledge of ACC Network or other ESPN-affiliated productions.
Location & Travel
- Primary location: ACC Headquarters in Charlotte, NC.
- Travel required for championship events, campus visits, and vendor coordination.
