Job Description

Job DescriptionWho We Are

Sea Mart Quality Foods is more than a supermarket; we are a Sitka landmark. Located on an island community with only 14 miles of road, we serve as the primary gateway for our neighbors' daily needs. As a 24-hour independently owned and operated store, we embrace the "Spirit of Alaska" through a deep commitment to our community and a "first-and-last" touchpoint hospitality model. Our history is rooted in resilience, navigating the complexities of island logistics where every product represents a journey by barge. We pride ourselves on being the stabilizing force that keeps Sitka stocked, secure, and welcomed.

You Will Be

 • The Guardian of Quality: You are the ambassador of premium protein, ensuring that every item on our shelves meets the highest standards for freshness, safety, and visual appeal.
 • The Technical Logistics Expert: You master the "front-of-house" operations, from professional meat-wrapping machinery to precision scale management and barcoding accuracy.
 • The Hospitality Guide: You provide proactive "wayfinding" and expert product recommendations, helping our neighbors select the best cuts for their families.

What You Will Do (Entry Level 1 - Core Responsibilities)

 • Case Merchandising: Maintain full, attractive self-service cases through frequent stocking and organized product arrangement.
 • Meticulous Rotation: Execute "First-In-First-Out" (FIFO) protocols; cull items nearing expiration to guarantee peak freshness and Cold Chain integrity.
 • Sterile Sanitation: Perform high-frequency cleaning of display glass, shelving, and high-touch surfaces to maintain a pristine storefront.
 • Guest Wayfinding: Actively assist guests in locating specific cuts or products and offer general information on department offerings.
 • Department Support: Assist in the labeling and pricing of pre-packaged goods and maintain the organization of the walk-in cooler and freezers, as assigned.

Advanced Responsibilities (Specialist Level 2 & Lead Level 3)

Internal promotions to these levels are based on operational need. Candidates with prior comparable experience may be identified for these tracks.

 • Specialist (Level 2): Technical Operations. Masters the operation of meat-wrapping machinery and precision scales. Assists in receiving freight, verifying physical counts against invoices, and staging product for production.
 • Lead (Level 3): Floor Leadership. Coordinates the real-time flow between the processing room and the sales floor. Ensures zero-variance accuracy on specialized custom orders and serves as a technical mentor for junior staff.

Qualifications

 • Experience: None required for Level 1; we are a "Teaching Store."
 • Age Requirement: 18+ Years Old (Required for environmental safety in the meat processing room where hazardous equipment is used).
 • Certifications: Ability to obtain a valid Alaska Food Workers Card within 30 days of employment.

Physical Requirements & Environment

 • Cold Exposure: Ability to remain productive in refrigerated environments (35°ree;F to 45°ree;F) for the duration of a shift.
 • Dynamic Mobility: Ability to stand for a 4–8 hour shift, lift up to 30 lbs, and navigate walk-in coolers and freezers.
 • Visual Accuracy: Ability to read small text, expiration dates, barcodes, and digital screens with 100% precision.
 • Sensory Awareness: Ability to visually distinguish quality markers (color/texture) and hear equipment safety alarms or overhead pages.

Pay Transparency

 • Pay Range: $17.00 - $20.00 hourly. Starting rates vary by level, experience, and current operational needs.
 • Overtime: This is an hourly position subject to Alaska's 8-hour daily overtime laws.
