Robert Half is seeking a New York–barred Motion Clerk to join a high‑stakes trial team on a long‑term temporary assignment. This role will support ongoing litigation involving allegations of institutional sexual abuse. The ideal candidate is a strong legal writer who thrives in a fast‑paced trial environment and can manage urgent motion work under pressure.
Location: Remote
Pay Rate: $60–$70 per hour
Duration: 9 Months
Hours:
· Pre-Trial: 10-15 hours up to 35 hours closer to trial
Start: Immediate
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, revise, and support motion practice in real time during trial.
- Analyze and respond to:
- Emergency protective orders
- Discovery disputes
- Motions to compel
- Motions in limine
- Oppositions and related trial submissions
- Anticipate defense strategies and prepare persuasive:
- Motions
- Letters and letters‑briefs
- Court submissions
- Trial-related briefs
- Serve as “trial appellate counsel,” producing rapid turnaround briefing remotely.
- Work closely with trial attorneys to advance plaintiff’s case and strategy.
Qualifications:
- Must be admitted and in good standing with the New York State Bar.
- Strong passion for legal writing and comfort with the fast pace of trial work.
- Prior experience with emergency motion practice, discovery disputes, and trial‑related motion work.
- Ability to produce high‑quality written work under tight deadlines and shifting trial needs.
- Experience anticipating opposing counsel’s strategies and preparing strategic submissions.
- Background with institutional negligence claims—including negligent hiring, supervision, and retentions highly preferred.
- Familiarity with notice issues such as foreseeable, constructive, and active notice is a plus.
- Ability to work both onsite in NYC and remotely as trial needs require.
