Our team seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented Family Law Paralegal with a strong work ethic to assist clients facing family-related legal matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in preparing for family law cases, including divorce, child custody, spousal support, adoption, and domestic violence cases.
- Prepare, proofread, and edit legal documents, including complaints, correspondence, motions, pleadings, settlement agreements, and court pleadings. Ensure accuracy and compliance with legal standards.
- Prepare and assist in preparing Case Information Statements, collaborating with clients to gather necessary documents and information.
- Organize pleadings and assist with discovery for the firm.
- Create and maintain case files, ensuring all documents are accurately filed, updated, and compliant with legal standards.
- Facilitate meeting attorneys' deadlines by keeping schedules organized and providing timely reminders.
- Assist in the preparation for hearings, trials, and mediations, including preparing exhibits and other evidence.
- File documents with courts and other firms as necessary, ensuring compliance with relevant legal deadlines and procedures.
- Conduct thorough legal research and gather relevant case information.
- Provide executive administrative support, including calendar management, appointment scheduling, and handling phone communications with clients.
- Handle client intake, including gathering necessary information and assisting with the preparation of initial documentation.
- Coordinate and schedule hearings, mediations, and consultations, ensuring efficient and timely preparation of materials to meet deadlines.
Job Type: Full-time, In-person.
Pay: Based on experience and skill level.
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- No nights or weekends (occasional exceptions for professional development training or continuing education events)
Work Location: In person. Paramus, NJ.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Paralegal in family law or similar legal fields.
- Demonstrated ability in document review, proofreading, and maintaining organized files.
- Experience with online court filing and scheduling (ex. eCourts and JEDS).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and stay on top of deadlines.
- Excellent phone/email etiquette and written/verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of maintaining virtual files, working with case/client management software, scanning files, creating PDFs, and editing documents.
- Proficiency in online systems such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Zoom..
Preferred Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of family law procedures, court rules, and legal terminology.
- Paralegal experience in a family law firm
- Proficiency in legal research tools such as Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw.
- Experience with family law software such as LEAP, Family Law Software, or similar tools.
- Certification as a paralegal (NALA, NFPA, or equivalent certification).
- Experience providing executive administrative support.
