Source One is a consulting services company and we’re currently looking for the following individual to work as a consultant to our direct client, a ride-sharing autonomous vehicle company in Hayward, CA.
Title: Torque Technician (Contract)
Pay Rate: $37.52/hour
Summary: We are seeking a Torque Technician to support functional safety, product performance, traceability, and compliance with internal manufacturing standards and external regulatory requirements.
The Torque Technician is a critical technical role responsible for the configuration, installation, validation, and troubleshooting of torque-controlled tools and fastened joint systems across manufacturing and assembly operations. This position ensures fastening processes meet defined engineering specifications, torque -angle requirements, joint integrity criteria, and quality control standards. The role directly supports functional safety, product performance, traceability, and compliance with internal manufacturing standards and external regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and committed to safety, quality, and process discipline in a production environment.
As a Torque Technician, you'll:
- Maintain proper care, calibration status, and readiness of torque tools and fastening equipment.
- Perform in-process and final inspections of fastened joints to verify quality and compliance, including residual torque checks and periodic tool inspections.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and vehicle engineering teams to support joint testing, validation, and installation trials.
- Proactively identify and address fastening issues such as cross-threading, under- or over-torque, galling, and joint loosening.
- Accurately document fastening data, inspection results, and nonconformances in manufacturing and quality systems.
- Support corrective and preventive actions related to fastener or joint failures.
- Partner with production, quality, and engineering teams to continuously improve fastening processes and standards.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 3 years of experience in automotive manufacturing, assembly, or mechanical fastening
- Knowledge of bolted joints and fastener basics
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, torque specifications, and basic engineering drawings
- Experience using manual and powered torque tools
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree or technical certification in a related field
- Experience with Atlas Copko torque tools and systems
- Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) and non-conformance reporting
- Experience in the electric vehicle or autonomous vehicle industry
- Proficiency with common computer applications (e.g., Google Workspace) for documentation and reporting
