Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Detailer - Commercial Doors to develop accurate shop drawings, hardware schedules, and documentation for commercial door projects. The role supports project teams by translating architectural drawings and specifications into coordinated door and hardware submittals, ensuring compliance with project requirements, code, and manufacturer standards. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, familiar with commercial doors and hardware workflows, and proficient with industry tools including Software for Hardware and CAD/Revit platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce precise shop drawings and elevation details for commercial doors, frames, and related hardware in accordance with project specifications and manufacturer requirements.
  • Create, edit and maintain hardware schedules and hardware sets for openings, ensuring correct hardware function, handing, and finish selections.
  • Use Software for Hardware and CAD/Revit/AutoCAD to generate accurate drawings, BOMs, and submittal packages; maintain standardized detail libraries.
  • Review architectural drawings, specifications (Division 08), and contract documents to identify door hardware requirements, conflicts, and clarifications.
  • Coordinate with architects, general contractors, subcontractors, and manufacturers to resolve design issues, respond to RFIs, and incorporate revisions into drawings and schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards including ADA, NFPA, and local building codes; verify fire-rated assembly requirements and egress conditions.
  • Prepare and review submittals, shop drawings, and punch lists; support fabrication and installation teams with clarifications and field visits as required.
  • Maintain project documentation, update change logs and revisions, and support estimating and project management teams with accurate takeoffs and material lists.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience detailing commercial doors and hardware in the construction industry or door/hardware manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with Software for Hardware (or similar door/hardware scheduling tools).
  • Thorough knowledge of Division 08 (Openings) specifications, door and frame types, hardware functions, and finishing options.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including ADA, NFPA, UL listings, and local building codes; experience with fire-rated assemblies required.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and contract documents with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good communication and coordination skills to collaborate with architects, contractors, manufacturers, and field personnel.
  • Certificate or diploma in Architectural Technology, Construction Technology, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience. DHI CDC/CDT credential or similar is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, maintain organized documentation, and perform occasional site visits when needed.
