Salary: $150k/year
Position Summary
The General Manager is the senior operational leader, serving as the CEO’s direct extension in day-to-day management. This role owns the P&L, fleet performance, customer relationships, and cross-functional team execution. The GM will lead a team of department managers—including Logistics, Operations, Fleet Maintenance, and Safety—and is accountable for driving revenue growth, operational efficiency, and a culture of safety and accountability. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring someone who can operate at both strategic and ground level in a fast-paced oilfield environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & P&L Ownership
- Own daily operations across dispatch, fleet, maintenance, and safety functions, ensuring load count targets, on-time delivery, and margin goals are met.
- Drive revenue performance through load optimization, rate discipline, and customer expansion.
- Manage fleet utilization across company trucks and owner-operators, including driver rotation schedules, equipment allocation, and capacity planning.
- Oversee vendor relationships, fuel programs, and cost-control initiatives to protect operating margins.
- Conduct weekly performance reviews with department managers (Logistics, Operations, Fleet Maintenance, Safety) and report consolidated results to the CEO.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead and develop a management team including Logistics Manager, Operations Manager, Fleet Maintenance Manager, and Safety Manager.
- Drive hiring, onboarding, and retention strategies to fill vacant driver seats (currently 5 open) and build bench strength across all departments.
- Establish and enforce performance standards, hold managers accountable to KPIs, and cultivate a culture where direct reports escalate issues—not suppress them.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for HR, driver relations, and interdepartmental conflict resolution.
Customer & Business Development
- Maintain and deepen relationships with key MSA customers including Halliburton, AES, Ryder, New Park, and Valence.
- Lead rate negotiations and contract renewals; ensure competitive positioning across service lines.
- Identify new revenue opportunities—new customers, service areas, and commodity types—in alignment with the CEO’s growth strategy.
- Represent company professionally in customer meetings, industry events, and safety audits.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion a safety-first culture across all operations; partner closely with the Safety Manager to maintain DOT, FMCSA, and ISNetworld compliance.
- Oversee incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Ensure fleet compliance with inspections, CDL requirements, drug and alcohol programs, and hours of service regulations.
Technology & Process Improvement
- Leverage IAT’s proprietary TMS and AI-powered tools (load parsing, driver recommendations, safety coaching, invoice management) to drive data-informed decisions.
- Partner with the CEO and offshore tech team on TMS feature adoption, user feedback, and process automation priorities.
- Utilize Motive ELD, FleetOne, and Meza platforms to manage fleet performance, billing, and payroll/HR workflows.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive experience in trucking, oilfield services, or transportation logistics, with at least 3 years in a senior management or general management role.
- Demonstrated P&L ownership with a track record of growing revenue and managing operating margins in a fleet-based business.
- Deep knowledge of oilfield hauling operations (bulk, bulk liquid, flatbed, vacuum, and heavy haul), DOT/FMCSA regulations, and Permian Basin market dynamics.
- Proven ability to build, develop, and hold accountable a team of department managers in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
- Strong customer relationship management skills with experience managing MSA contracts and rate negotiations.
- Comfort with technology platforms including ELD/telematics (Motive preferred), TMS, and data-driven operational tools.
- Willingness to be based in or relocate to the Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa area); regular travel to San Antonio corporate office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing owner-operator relationships and mixed fleet models.
- Familiarity with factoring, AR/AP workflows, and oilfield billing cycles.
- Prior experience with ISNetworld, Avetta, or similar compliance platforms.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred given workforce demographics.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or related field; MBA a plus.
- Existing relationships with Permian Basin operators and service companies.
