The Mechanical Designer creates and updates high-quality 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings to support new and existing products. This role focuses on product improvements, cost reductions, and design optimization while working closely with cross-functional teams. The Mechanical Designer participates in design reviews, testing, and validation activities, and contributes to troubleshooting and root cause analysis for design issues.

Responsibilities

  • Create and update accurate 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Support product improvement initiatives by enhancing performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Contribute to cost reduction efforts through thoughtful design optimization and material selection.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to ensure designs meet functional, quality, and production requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews to present concepts, incorporate feedback, and refine designs.
  • Support testing and validation of new products and features by preparing design documentation and updating models based on test results.
  • Troubleshoot design issues by analyzing problems, proposing solutions, and implementing design changes.
  • Support root cause analysis activities by reviewing designs, identifying contributing factors, and updating documentation to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain organized design data and documentation within engineering software and product data management systems.

Essential Skills

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant mechanical design experience, with internship or co-op experience highly valued.
  • Proficiency in creating and updating 3D models, assemblies, and detailed mechanical drawings.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical design, including integration of mechanical components with electrical or electronic elements.
  • Experience with structural design, including consideration of strength, durability, and load-bearing requirements.
  • Experience with industrial design concepts, including form, fit, and user-focused product aesthetics.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes such as sheet metal fabrication, plastics manufacturing, and mechanical assembly.
  • Ability to troubleshoot design issues and support root cause analysis activities.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience using SolidWorks for 3D modeling and detailed design.
  • Experience using Creo for mechanical design and assemblies.
  • Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) systems for managing design files and engineering documentation.
  • Experience participating in design reviews, testing, and validation of new products and features.
  • Ability to support product improvements, cost reductions, and design optimization initiatives.

Work Environment

The Mechanical Designer works in a professional engineering environment that relies on modern 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks and Creo, along with PDM systems to manage design data and documentation. The role involves regular collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams, requiring participation in meetings, design reviews, and discussions focused on product performance, cost, and manufacturability. Work typically takes place in an office or engineering lab setting with access to computers, engineering software, and product prototypes for testing and validation activities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manitowoc, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
