Job DescriptionFinance & Transactions Associate Attorney – New York

Direct Counsel is working with a top-tier, client-centric law firm to identify a Finance Associate Attorney to join its Finance & Transactions practice in New York. This role is ideal for attorneys who are energized by complex deal work and ready to deepen their practice within a sophisticated, team-oriented platform that prioritizes mentorship, business development, and client exposure.

About the Role

In this position, you will play a central role in structuring, negotiating, and managing a range of commercial finance transactions. The team supports a diverse client base—including financial institutions, lenders, and borrowers—on deals that demand precision, foresight, and efficient execution. As part of this collaborative group, you will:

  • Draft and negotiate loan documents for secured and unsecured lending transactions.

  • Coordinate and manage all aspects of a deal, including due diligence, closings, and post-closing matters.

  • Juggle multiple deal timelines and deliverables across a variety of industries.

  • Work closely with shareholders and senior counsel, with the opportunity to attend client meetings and contribute to strategic decision-making.

  • Be encouraged to participate in business development and client relationship efforts.

This is not just a back-office drafting role—this is a position that allows a motivated associate to build long-term relationships with clients and become a trusted advisor.

Ideal Candidate Profile

To succeed in this position, you should bring:

  • 2-4 years of commercial finance experience at a law firm, including experience managing transactions from term sheet to closing.

  • A demonstrated ability to draft and negotiate loan documents (including credit agreements, security agreements, and ancillary documentation).

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with a track record of balancing competing priorities.

  • A J.D. from a well-regarded institution and strong academic credentials.

  • Admission (or pending admission) in the jurisdiction where you’ll be working (Illinois, New York, or Texas).

Why Join

This opportunity is perfect for a finance attorney who is looking to expand their skill set, grow within a dynamic team, and take on increasing responsibility in a setting that rewards initiative and collaboration. The firm offers:

  • High-level, deal-driven work that’s both challenging and rewarding.

  • A hybrid work model (3 days in-office, 2 days remote), allowing for flexibility while maintaining strong team connectivity.

  • Substantial support for professional development, including training, mentoring, and feedback channels tailored to your career path.

  • A culture that balances excellence with approachability—expect to be trusted with meaningful work from day one.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $230,000 – $320,000, based on experience and location.

  • Discretionary bonus program tied to performance.

  • Robust retirement planning options including pre-tax and Roth 401(k) contributions (managed through Vanguard).

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, along with firm-paid life and disability coverage.

  • Competitive time-off package, including vacation, holidays, personal, and sick days.

  • Additional benefits such as commuter benefits, wellness programs, backup child and elder care, and more.
