Senior Propulsion Engineer
Our client, a manufacturer of advanced propulsion systems, is seeking a Senior Propulsion Engineer to lead the design, development, testing, and optimization of propulsion systems that power next-generation aerospace products.
This role combines technical leadership, hands-on engineering, and cross-functional collaboration, playing a critical part in advancing propulsion performance, reliability, and manufacturability. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in propulsion systems along with strong analytical, testing, and problem-solving capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & System Design
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of propulsion systems and components, ensuring performance, safety, and regulatory compliance
- Apply advanced knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials to improve system efficiency and reliability
- Drive innovation in propulsion technologies, including evaluation of emerging solutions (e.g., hybrid, electric, alternative fuels)
Testing, Validation & Analysis
- Develop and execute propulsion system test plans, including component, subsystem, and full-system validation
- Oversee test setup, instrumentation, and data acquisition to ensure accurate and repeatable results
- Analyze performance data, identify root causes, and implement design improvements
- Support qualification, certification, and production testing activities
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with mechanical design, electrical engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure seamless system integration
- Support transition from development to production, ensuring designs are manufacturable and scalable
- Communicate technical concepts, risks, and progress to internal stakeholders and leadership
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Lead failure analysis and troubleshooting efforts to resolve propulsion system issues
- Identify opportunities to improve performance, reduce cost, and enhance system reliability
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive continuous innovation
Mentorship & Project Ownership
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
- Support project planning, timelines, and deliverables for propulsion-related initiatives
- Contribute to building engineering standards, tools, and best practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in propulsion system design, development, or testing (aerospace or advanced manufacturing environment)
- Strong understanding of:
- Thermodynamics
- Fluid mechanics
- Materials science (high-temp / aerospace applications)
- Experience with propulsion system testing, validation, and data analysis
- Proficiency with modeling/simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, or similar)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Experience with jet propulsion or gas turbine engines
- Familiarity with advanced propulsion technologies (electric, hybrid, alternative fuels)
- Experience with CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks)
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and certification processes
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent
- Experience supporting engine or propulsion system testing programs
