Job Summary
The Senior Heavy-Duty Mechanic is responsible for advanced diagnostics, repair, maintenance, and overhaul of heavy-duty vehicles and diesel-powered equipment. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership in the shop, and the ability to mentor junior mechanics while ensuring work meets manufacturer and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced diagnostics and complex repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, and electrical systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic issues efficiently
- Lead and support junior mechanics, providing guidance and technical expertise
- Ensure all repairs comply with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations
- Accurately document diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance records
- Communicate effectively with service advisors, supervisors, and customers when required
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Stay current with industry technology, tools, and service procedures
Required Qualifications
- Certification in diesel engine repair
- ASM (Automotive Service Management or Automotive Service Excellence as applicable) certification
- Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy-duty diagnostics and repair
- Proven expertise in diesel engines and heavy-duty vehicle systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience at a Ford dealership
- Prior Army or Navy mechanical experience
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
